UCT Administration Internship 2013

The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Institutional Planning Department is responsible for providing information and a range of services to support decision making and promote a culture of continuous improvement within the university.

Aim of the Internship 

To enable people who would like to work in a university to acquire practical experience of working in a university in order to apply for jobs.

What can you learn during your internship in a Planning Department?

The intern would have an opportunity of working in any/all the following areas during the internship:  Institutional Information and Research, Academic Planning, Social Responsiveness, and Quality Assurance.  More information can be found on these areas on the Planning Department’s website (http://www.uct.ac.za/services/ip/department).  During the year the intern can develop the following kinds of skills and knowledge:

  • Knowledge about university policies and issues and challenges facing universities
  • Project management, team work, report writing, minute taking and networking skills
  • Statistical analysis
  • How to promote and enhance the contributions of universities to addressing development challenges facing South Africa and the continent more broadly
  • Servicing of university committees
  • Knowledge about academic planning and quality management systems in universities

Requirements:

Potential candidates should have:

  • a university degree
  • an interest in working in a university
  • potential to succeed based on past performance in other contexts

Remuneration:

The successful intern will receive remuneration commensurate with the tasks detailed in a fixed-term contract and previous work or other experience.

Applications

Applications must be submitted to Mrs Rochelle Speller at rochelle.speller@uct.ac.za by 20 October 2012.  The applications must be accompanied by at least two written references and a detailed motivation written by the applicant covering:

  • reasons for applying for the internship
  • the nature of the applicant’s interest in working in a university

Applicants who do not meet the requirements and who do not provide at least two written references and a detailed motivation will not be considered.
