Webber Wentzel Law Scholarship 2014

Editor

Webber Wentzel is offering up-to 10 scholarships to the value of R30 000 each as part of the law firm’s Corporate Social Investment programme. The scholarship is expected to cover tuition and housing fees and the costs of textbooks.

Students must be South African citizens and registered for their penultimate year of study towards an LLB degree.

Academic excellence is the primary criterion that will be taken into account in awarding scholarships.

Other factors that may be considered in appropriate cases include:

  • previously disadvantaged backgrounds; and
  • the ability to demonstrate financial need.

If an applicant is successful, the scholarship will be re-awarded for his or her final year of study provided his or her conduct remains satisfactory and that he or she passes all subjects with an acceptable mark in the minimum prescribed period.

Recipients of scholarships are people who we believe have the potential to become successful Webber Wentzel lawyers, and will be required to participate in vacation work programmes.

Webber Wentzel will consider employing scholarship recipients as candidate attorneys when they graduate, depending on their academic achievements and the existence of suitable vacancies. Scholarship recipients who are offered employment by Webber Wentzel are obliged to accept on terms no less favourable than the terms offered to all other first-year candidate attorneys employed by the firm in that year.
