The University of Limpopo is currently inviting applications from suitably qualified unemployed Information Technology or Computer Science South African graduates between the ages of 18 and 35 for a Web Development internship opportunity. The interns will be based at the University of Limpopo’s Turfloop Campus in Mankweng. Interns will be paid a monthly stipend for the duration of the internship.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in computer science/ National Diploma in Information Technology and or related experience
  • Server-side development knowledge (ASP.NET, PHP, JSP). Be sure that you mastered at least one server side development framework.
  • PostgreSQL or MySQL knowledge.
  • Minimal knowledge in internet security
  • The web developer must have strong understanding of hypertext markup language (HTML).
  • The developer must be able to develop systems that are cross browser compatible and can be used on any server, requiring an understanding of which browsers and servers work well together.
  • Very good spoken and written English in order to design prototypes and train staff and faculties.
  • Superior knowledge of current web-development trends and techniques, a strong online portfolio displaying user-centered development, and experience with database solutions definite assets.
  • Understand standard systems development lifecycle processes and applies methodologies effectively on proposed systems.
  • Posses knowledge of various database access methods.

The following skills will be an added advantage:

  • Visual and verbal communications skills.
  • Be able to work under changing demands and tight deadlines.
  • Background in web-design software (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Adobe Illustrator and Paint Shop Pro).

Duties and Responsibilities
The appointee will be required to:

  • Meet with various departments of the university and choose development methodologies based on the requirements they might have on the systems they want developed, and also Technologies to be used.
  • Create analytical documentations based on the systems they will be required to develop (Feasibility studies, System structures and Project plans documentations).
  • Perform maintenance and updating of existing websites when required.
  • Ensure that the layout of the content is accessible and logical, recommend improvements if necessary.
  • Contribute to the overall development of website user groups of the University.

Applicants who have already participated in any Internship Programme will not be considered and if it is found that this was the case after appointment, the participation(s) will be terminated with immediate effect.
