The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is inviting applications from law graduates and final year law students who will have completed their LLB degrees by 1 February 2014 to apply for its 2015 Trainee Prosecutors Internship Opportunities. Trainee Prosecutors will be based at various offices of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) accross South Africa for the duration of the training.

If your application is successful, your key performance areas will include conducting prosecutions and attending to matters incidental thereto, you will represent the public interest in the criminal justice system. You will be further required to be the gatekeeper of criminal law. While performing these duties, you are expected to follow the Code of Conduct and observe National Prosecuting Authority Act (Act No.: 32 of 1998) policy directives.

Trainee/Aspirant Prosecutors will receive monthly remuneration equivalent to an annual salary of R141 339 to R164 028 per annum (i.e. a minimum salary before tax and other deductions of R11 778.25 PER MONTH).

What are the requirements?

To be considered for these Trainee Prosecutor, you have to meet the following minimum requirements and apply according the procedure as listed in “How to apply”.

  • Have an LLB degree obtained from a South African university or a be a final year student;
  • Have the following subjects:
    1. Criminal procedure;
    2. Civil procedure;
    3. Law of evidence;
    4. Criminal law; and
    5. Interpretation of statuses.
  • If currently a student, must complete your LLB degree before 1 February 2015
  • Willingness to enter into a binding training contract with the NPA outling the conditions of service;
  • Willingness to take part in an entry examination as part of the selection process

You duly completed Z83 Form should be accompanied by a recent detailed CV, certified copies of ID, Transcript(s) of Academic Record, and qualifications. (NB! On the z83 Form, under “Position for which you are applying (as advertised)” write ASPIRANT PROSECUTOR TRAINING and under “Reference number (as stated in the advert)” write the recruit number that correspond with the NPA centre you wish to be trained at (see table below) and under “Department where the position was advertised” write National Prosecuting Authority.
