SA Navy 2016 Training Opportunities

Are you comfortable with water? Would you not mind spending hours, days or even months at sea? Are you interested in a job that may keep you at sea for extended periods of time while defending your country in the process? The South African Navy is inviting applications for its 2017 Training Programme from South Africans with only a Grade 12 / Matric qualification OR a Matric and a tertiary qualification. Successful candidates will be trained in various areas of the SA Navy including Combat, Engineering, Technical and Support.

What are the requirements?

There are general requirements that all candidates have to meet, as well as two sets of requirements for candidates that have a Matric only and those that have a tertiary qualification in addition to a Grade 12.

General requirements:

All applicants are required:

  • Be a South African citizen (no dual citizenship allowed);
  • Have NO criminal record;
  • Be willing to relocate with the job and not area bound;
  • Have no disabilities;
  • Have no fears of heights or confined spaces;
  • Preferably be single (i.e. not married); and
  • Be willing to comply with medical fitness requirements for appointment in the SANDF.

IF YOU have ONLY a Matric/Grade 12:

If you have only a Matric / Grade 12, you have to:

  • COMBAT APPLICANTS & ENGINEERING AND TECHNICAL APPLICANTS: Be between the ages of 18 and 22, and have completed a Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science (with a pass of Level 3 for both Maths and Science).


If you are a Graduate:

  • Have a Grade 12 and a Degree, National Diploma or N6 (with Trade Test Certificate) in Mechanical, Marine or Electrical Engineering; or
  • Have a Grade 12/Matric and a relevant support (e.g. Human Resource / Logistics) Degree, National Diploma or N6.
