City of Cape Town 2021 Learner Technicians (Electrical Engineering)

The City of Cape Town (Energy Services) has one-year contractual positions for learner technicians, who would hold a Diploma or still require in-service training to obtain their S4 diploma, or National N Diploma in the following disciplines:

• Protection Field Services: Protection pre-commissioning testing, maintenance testing, audits and fault repairs)
• SCADA Field Services: Protection pre-commissioning testing, maintenance testing, audits and fault repairs)
• Telecoms: Provision and maintenance of telecommunication systems (fibre, copper, microwave, radio, GSM and network configuration) for electricity infrastructure between substations, control centre and facilities.
• Engineering: Planning and design of high voltage, medium voltage and low voltage distribution systems/project management/customer connections
• Geo-Information Science (GIS): Geo-Informatics / Cartography / Geography
• Measurement: Automation, operations and investigations
• Electronic Security Support Services (ESSS): Provision and maintenance of access control, intrusion alarms, CCTV, electric fences, and fire alarms for electricity infrastructure
• High Voltage: Operations, repairs and maintenance, plant performance, fault investigations of 11 x 132kV substations (switchgear, transformers, batteries and ancillary equipment), underground cables and overhead lines.

What are the requirements?

In order to be considered, candidates should meet the following minimum:

Requirements for the following positions:

• Protection/SCADA Field Services / Engineering
  • Successfully completed National Diploma (S4) Electrical Engineering course in the related field or in-service training still outstanding.
• GIS (Geo-Information Science) / Geo-informatics / Cartography / Geography (with GIS as core subject)
  • Successfully completed S4 course in Geo-Information Science and Technology Geo-informatics / Cartography / Geography (with GIS as core subject) or in-service training still outstanding
• Telecoms/ESSS
  • Successfully completed National Diploma (S4) Electrical Engineering course in the related field or in-service training still outstanding or National N Diploma
• Measurement
  • Successfully completed National Diploma (S4) Electrical Engineering course in the related field or in-service training still outstanding or National N Diploma
• High Voltage
  • Successfully completed National Diploma (S4) Electrical Engineering course in the related field or in-service training still outstanding.
• All applicants must:
  • Be in possession of at least a valid Code B driver’s licence
  • Reside in the Cape Metropole.
