The Cape Town Press Club/ British American Tobacco South Africa bursary scheme is available ONLY to postgraduate students who are currently persuing or wishing to persue a qualification in journalism. The bursary will only be awarded to “a student either at University of Cape Town, Rhodes University or Stellenbosch University – for a journalism honours or masters programme,” according to the Cape Town Press Club. The bursary/scholarship is worth R20 000.
How to apply for the Cape Town Press Club/British American Tobacco Bursary?
To apply for this bursary:

3. Send it back to the Cape Town Press Club by 28 September 2012.
Other important information to note:
• The Scholarship award will be deposited into the fee account of successful applicant.
• An initial amount of R10 000 will be granted to the successful candidate on registration of the
student for an honours or masters programme and upon receipt of a mid-year progress report
showing suitable progress, the second tranche of R10 000 will be granted. Should it be a
thesis based honours’ or masters’ degree, a written report from the student’s tutor would
suffice indicating student was on target to complete the degree in the appropriate time.
• On completion of studies a full report card should be sent to the Cape Town Press Club.
• Completed application forms and referee’s reports must be received by the closing date.
• Closing date for applications is the last Friday of September.
• Late or incomplete applications will not be processed
• Successful applicants will be informed of the outcome within 6 weeks of closing date for
applications.
• Successful applicants automatically consent to the publication of their name on the Club’s
website or in any other use or manner that publicises the work of the Cape Town Press Club.
• Successful applicants may be required to deliver a short address at a Cape Town Press Club
function.
