Pretoria – The City of Tshwane has distanced itself from any nursing study opportunities that are said to be offered by the government and the institutions listed in the hoax advertisement for nursing study opportunities.

The City of Tshwane said it has learned that the mayoral poster for the State of the City Address is being used to lure people to apply for nursing study opportunities.

“The advert states that the Gauteng Provincial Government is training people for free for a four-year diploma in General Nursing (Psychiatry, Community) and Midwifery.

“It further promises students that they will be paid a stipend of R5 000 per month and will qualify for other employee benefits such as medical aid, etc,” said City of Tshwane spokesperson, Nomasonto Ndlovu.

The city warned the public not to fall prey to fraudsters who pose as the City of Tshwane, and advised applicants who want to register at any nursing college to go directly to tertiary institutions to enquire about study opportunities.

“The City condemns the use of the municipal logo to associate the City with unofficial partnerships, and the public is encouraged to notify the municipality of such deceitful practices,” said Ndlovu.

Enquiries about nursing study opportunities in Gauteng can be directed to the Department of Health at: Gauteng Nursing Colleges, The Central Selection Centre, PO Box 942, Mellville, 2109. Attention: Ms Chris Jonker – Tel 011 644 8946/9007. – SAnews.gov.za
