The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) hereby offers unemployed youth an 18 months learnership in the local government sector. MISA is a component of the Department of Cooperative Governance (DCoG) established in terms of Section 7(2) Schedule 3 of the Public Service Act of 1994 (as amended) and in terms of Gazette No 36634/ 2013, established to build technical capacity of municipalities to undertake efficient planning, delivery, operations and management of municipal infrastructure amongst other functions.
Whilst the programme is not exclusively limited to individuals from previously disadvantaged communities, MISA strives for excellence in the context of service delivery and skills development and encourages historically disadvantaged individuals to apply.
The MISA Water Process Controller Training programme is in response to the need for accredited plant operator training interventions to develop the capacity of municipalities to comply with Regulation 2834.17 of the Water Services Act No. 108 of 1997 aimed at ensuring the professionalization and certification of persons operating drinking water supply system or waterworks as Water or Wastewater Process Controllers.
The programme is also aimed at assisting municipalities to achieve compliance with Blue Drop / Green Drop water quality standards set by the Department of Water Affairs (DWA). The 18 months learnership programme will culminate with candidates competent in the National Certificate in Water and Waste Water Process Control NQF Level 2 eligible for registration as Class 1 Operators.
