Statistics South Africa 2014 Bursaries

Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) is inviting applications from young South Africans looking to pursue their full-time studies in 2014 at any South African university. These bursaries are open to South African citizens who are currently in matric (Grade 12) [or those who have completed matric but are not currently studying] or in university but not beyond their second year of study. Applicants need to be 17 – 21 years old to be considered.

What are the requirements?

You must be studying or planning to study full-time towards any of the following qualifications at a South African university:

  • BA – Geography (majoring in GIS), or Demography or Population Studies
  • BSc – Computer Science or Mathematical Statistics
  • BCom – Economics, or Accounting or Statistics

Depending on your current educational level, you have to meet either of the following sets of minimum requirements to be considered:

Minimum requirements for school leavers (those in currently in Matric or those who have completed it):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • Be between the ages of 17 and 21 years old
  • Have a university acceptance letter
  • Must have achievement Level 5 in Mathematics (NOT Maths Literacy)
  • Have an aggregate mark of 65% or more.

Minimum requirements for university students (those in currently in their 1st or 2nd year of study):

  • Be between the ages of 17 and 21 years old
  • You must be a South African citizen
  • Must be currently (in 2013) in your 1st or 2nd year of undergraduate studies
  • Have a minimum of 60% pass mark in all major courses.
