CSIR Built Environment (BE) unit has a vacancy for an Intern in the Spatial Planning and Systems competence area. The incumbent will be expected to contribute to research work involving computerised models of growth in South African cities to support long-term infrastructure investment decisions. This is a contract position for one year and is based in Pretoria.
Key responsibilities:
- Conduct literature searches.
- Conduct desktop research.
- Prepare and maintain GIS databases.
- Undertake data analysis and GIS mapping.
- Write basic reports.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree with specialisation in GIS and subjects related to geography, town and regional planning, information science or related fields.
- Must be proficient in the use of GIS and databases.
- No experiences required, but an interest in map-making and spatial analysis will be a recommendation.
- Good interpersonal and team skills.
- Ability to work independently, as well as in an interdisciplinary team.
- Self-motivated.
- Problem-solving and solution-seeking orientation.
- Good communication, presentation and writing skills.
