The University of Limpopo is inviting applications from unemployed young South Africans with a national diploma in Graphics, Art, and Web Design for the position of Intern: Graphic Design and Branding currently vacant on its internship programme for 2014.

Requirements

  • A National Diploma in Graphics Art and Web Design
  • Knowledge of design and presentation software packages to include Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, PowerPoint, QuarkExpress, Freehand, PageMaker Corel Draw and Microsoft Office.
  • Flash, Director, Bryce, In Design knowledge a plus.
  • Familiarity with digital file formats (tiff, gif, eps, pdf) and the strengths and weaknesses of each.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of graphic design principles, a wide variety of media, and production methods. Basic knowledge of colour photographic processes and conventional and digital print processes.

Job description

  • Produce design solutions to communicate client messages Graphic design solutions are required for a huge variety of products and activities, such as websites, advertising, magazines, posters, newspapers, exhibitions and displays, corporate communications and corporate identity (e.g. giving organisations a visual ‘brand’).
  • Ability to develop creative ideas and concepts choosing the appropriate media and style to meet the client’s objectives.
  • Must have creative flair, up-to-date knowledge of industry software and a professional approach to time, costs and deadlines.

 

Responsibilities

  • meeting clients to discuss the business objectives and requirements of the job;
  • interpreting the client’s business needs and developing a concept to suit their purpose;
  • estimating the time required to complete the work and providing quotes for clients;
  • developing design briefs by gathering information and data through research;
  • thinking creatively to produce new ideas and concepts;
  • using innovation to redefine a design brief within the constraints of cost and time;
  • presenting finalised ideas and concepts to clients
  • working with a wide range of media, including photography and computer-aided design(CAD);
  • proofreading to produce accurate and high-quality work;
  • contributing ideas and design artwork to the overall brief;
  • demonstrating illustrative skills with rough sketches;
  • Graphic Designers provide graphic design support to the Marketing and Communication with hard and soft copy products, including web sites.
  • Keeping abreast of emerging technologies in new media (particularly design programs such as Quark Xpress, FreeHand, Illustrator, Photoshop, 3D Studio, Acrobat, Director, Dreamweaver and Flash) as most graphic design work is now completed on a computer;
  • Working as part of a team with printers, copywriters, photographers, other designers, web developers and marketing specialists.Graphic Designers provide graphic design support to Marketing and Communication with hard and soft copy products, including web sites.
  • Perform a wide range of routine to complex duties and responsibilities to include: Web design, Publications, brochures, covers, Posters, briefings, multimedia, Illustration, logos, and exhibits etc.
