NMISA is offering an Honours degree bursary at a recognised South African University. The degree must be completed within a one year period based on the technical needs of the Photometry and Radiometry Section of the Electricity and Magnetism division. Upon successful completion (i.e. achieving a final mark of at least 65% in Physics), the bursar will be required to enrol for a Masters degree. NMISA is the custodian of the South African national measurement standards, thus the bursar will be working closely with experts on the realisation of the International System (SI) units in the Electricity and Magnetism division.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ยท BSc degree, majoring in Physics and Mathematics with an average final year Physics mark of at least 65%
ยท Mathematical and statistical knowledge and subjects.
ยท Computer literate in MS Office
ยท Knowledge of optics/lasers/photonics will be an added advantage
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will be provided with photometric and/or radiometric projects that are aligned
to the laboratoryโs needs to meet the requirements of their Honours degree.

ยท Good writing skills and fluency in English and required (reading comprehension)

ยท Compliant in order to follow organisational and laboratory rules such as policies and procedures
ยท Honesty and ethical behaviour is of the utmost importance when delivering on assigned tasks within the NMISA
ยท Ability to function within a team to achieve a common goal
THE BURSARY INCLUDES
The full costs of registration and tuition, residence fees and an allowance for study material and prescribed books. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to gain work experience at NMISA during vacations. Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to advance their studies beyond an Honours degree.
