The Government Printing Works (GPW) in its attempt to contribute towards skills development, is providing unemployed youth with opportunities to be trained in the printing environment through the GPW 2017 apprenticeships programme. Applications are invited from all candidates who are between the ages of 18-35 who would like to participate in the apprenticeship programme to obtain an accredited qualification as Artisans in the Printing Industry. All apprentices will be allocated a mentor and will be stationed in Pretoria, Tshwane. Successful candidates will be offered a three-year contract in line with SETA requirements to prepare them successfully for both theory and practical training until they complete a trade test and receive their qualification. Successful applicants will be paid an annual stipend of R109, 926 (approximately R9,160 monthly before tax).
What are the requirements?
In order to be considered, candidates should meet the following requirements:
- Be South African youths between the ages of 18 and 35 years;
- Application must be in the possession of a Senior Certificate/ Grade 12 or equivalent qualification;
- Be willing and able to undergo training both on the job and in the classroom.

Applications must be submitted on a FULLY COMPLETED Z83 form (click here to download) or go fetch one at a government office near you), stating the field you are applying for (see fields under Apprenticeship Job Title in the above table), and reference number. The Z83 must be accompanied by a recent comprehensive CV, and originally CERTIFIED copies of your qualifications and Identity Document not older than 3 months.
Only the stipend will be provided, interns will have to find their own accommodation and transport.
