Reports to:                            Process Improvement Manager

What are the requirements?

  1. Must currently be enrolled in 4-year university program
  2. Field of study must be related to internship
  3. Must be available on location during summer months (May – August)
  4. Must be available for travel to other Milliken manufacturing locations and corporate headquarters in Georgia and South Carolina region
     

Required skills:

  1. Professional communication skills for computer, phone and verbal interaction with internal and external contacts as well as associates in all functional areas of the plant.
  2. Computer skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Skype, Excel, Word. Experience with computer aided drafting preferred.
  3. Effectively work in both individual and team settings
  4. Background in Science, Engineering, or Math is preferred.
  5. Developed critical thinking and problem-solving methodology; ex: Six Sigma, 5 Why, etc

Machines, tools, and equipment:

  1. Computer
  2. Various Department Equipment
  3. Measurement Devices

Responsibilities:

  1. Quickly learn the processes of your assigned department project.
  2. Work aggressively to adhere to project timelines set.
  3. Work individually and with process improvement team to complete summer project assigned.
  4. Assist in driving key quality initiatives for the plant.
  5. Project will include but not limited to:
    1. Running of trials both on the lab scale and production floor
    1. Auditing specific process lines
    1. Collecting and evaluating data
    1. Training and implementing new procedures across organizational levels
  6. Present project updates to plant senior leadership team and make adjustments as needed
  7. Visit corporate headquarters in Spartanburg, SC for leadership forum
  8. Visit corporate headquarters for Final Project Presentation to key associates in Performance and Protective Textiles Division
Physical requirements:                                  frequency amount, or description
Standing:             Ability to stand while working 80% of shift
Sitting:                  Ability to sit down for data entry/computer work 55% of shift
Moving:                Ability to move throughout plant 50% of shift
Lifting:              Ability to lift up  to15lbs 10% of shift
Climbing:              bility to traverse stairs or steps 1% of shift
Push/Pull/Reach:  Ability to push/pull cabinet drawers, empty boxes, reach for documents 25% of shift
Bending:                Ability to pick up objects from the floor 5% of shift
Walking:              Ability to walk plant wide 70% of shift
Visual Acuity:       Ability to read documents and computer screens 100% of shift
Temp Sensitivity:  Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments ranging                                                 from 40F to 100F+ with humidity levels in excess of 98%                                   100% of shift
