The Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs of KwaZulu-Natal is offering its Tourism Graduate Programme to provide graduates with workplace experience in collaboration with various organizations and municipalities.
This graduate programme is offered to candidates who live in the following municipalities:
- uMkhanyakude District Municipality
- Zululand District Municipality
- Amajuba District Municipality
- uThukela District Municipality
- uMzinyathi District Municipality
- uMgungundlovu District Municipality
- iLembe District Municipality
- eThekwini Metro (Tourism Offices)
- Henry Gwala District Municipality
The number of internship openings and reference numbers differs from each municipality. Please refer to the advert or the application form for the complete list of KZN municipalities offering the internship programme.
What are the requirements?
Applicants will need to meet these minimum requirements to become eligible to apply for the graduate programme:
- Applicants must be residents of any of the participating municipalities
- For unemployed graduates – must hold a certificate or degree in Travel and Tourism, Tourism Management or any relevant Tourism and Hospitality study
- Current Tourism students who need in-service training to complete their qualification
- Must not have participated in the same programme.
- Unemployed for at least a year
What is the selection process?
- Shortlisted applicants will go through an interview process
- Those able to make it through the interview will sign a performance agreement that will cover the whole duration of the programme.

Qualified applicants who wish to apply will need to acquire a copy of the application form. Before downloading and filling out the form, prepare the following documents:

- A comprehensive CV
- Matric certificate (certified copy)
- A certified true copy of 3-year degree or diploma
- Full academic records
- A certified true copy of SA ID
- Proof of residence obtained from the Local Municipality
- For undergraduates
- A comprehensive CV
- Matric certificate (certified copy)
- Certified copy of latest academic records
- Full academic records
- A certified true copy of SA ID
- Proof of residence obtained from the Local Municipality
- Letter from education institution stating the need for in-service training
