Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) is a professional institution that offers professional health sciences training and education in a range of fields through excellence in teaching, learning, innovative research and community engagement. SMU is situated in GaRankuwa (North of Pretoria) and the following position(s) is/are currently available: Film and Television Internship Ref: 50/2021/BGM/Intern. Mindful of the prevailing socio-economic conditions in South Africa, and in support of the national transformation agenda, Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) would like to provide internships to deserving young unemployed citizens. In this way, SMU hopes to provide experience to young South Africans, and give them the opportunity to be employable and to compete in the job market.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative assistance in various project management meetings such asscheduling of meetings and minute taking
  • Record keeping
  • Coordinate and administer assigned tasks in the various units of MIAAVS
  • Assist in teaching television/film related courses (Training academic staff in writing scripts
  • for television)
  • Perform administrative tasks in the scheduling of film shoots etc.
  • Assist in providing support to the other MIAAVS Units and university events and conferences
  • Attend to the needs of the users/departments to plan, execute and produce quality film/television productions
  • Liaise with Manager on addressing TV/Film problems or related administration problems
  • Maintain equipment
  • Contribute to the overall development of SMU and actively improve institutional culture
  • Any other related duties assigned by the office

What are the requirements?

To be considered, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • A three-year post-matric Broadcast Journalism/Film qualification (Advanced or Post
  • Graduate Journalism Diploma, BA Journalism Degree, Bachelor of Arts or relevant qualification) – transcript to be attached
  • New entrant into the Television/Film environment (in other words you must not have held a film and television internship before)
  • The incumbent should have no prior Television/Film working experience
  • Must be a South African citizen
