NMISA Honours Degree Bursary

NMISA is offering an Honours degree bursary at a recognised South African University. The degree must be completed within a one year period based on the technical needs of the Photometry and Radiometry Section of the Electricity and Magnetism division. Upon successful completion (i.e. achieving a final mark of at least 65% in Physics), the bursar will be required to enrol for a Masters degree. NMISA is the custodian of the South African national measurement standards, thus the bursar will be working closely with experts on the realisation of the International System (SI) units in the Electricity and Magnetism division.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
· BSc degree, majoring in Physics and Mathematics with an average final year Physics mark of at least 65%
· Mathematical and statistical knowledge and subjects.
· Computer literate in MS Office
· Knowledge of optics/lasers/photonics will be an added advantage

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will be provided with photometric and/or radiometric projects that are aligned
to the laboratory’s needs to meet the requirements of their Honours degree.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities and competencies:
· Strong attention to detail and deadline conscious
· Enthusiastic and self-motivated
· Strong verbal and written reasoning
· Good writing skills and fluency in English and required (reading comprehension)
· Good planning and organising skills with an analytical approach to work tasks
· Compliant in order to follow organisational and laboratory rules such as policies and procedures
· Honesty and ethical behaviour is of the utmost importance when delivering on assigned tasks within the NMISA
· Ability to function within a team to achieve a common goal

THE BURSARY INCLUDES
The full costs of registration and tuition, residence fees and an allowance for study material and prescribed books. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to gain work experience at NMISA during vacations. Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to advance their studies beyond an Honours degree.

Mediclinic Nursing Bursaries 2015

South African private hospital and healthcare group, Mediclinic, is inviting applications from young South Africans with Matric / Grade 12 to apply for their 2015 Bursaries for Nursing Training for the qualification of Certificate: Enrolled Nurse. There are currently four opportunities available at several Mediclinic training sites / hospitals in the following areas: Tshwane (Sunnyside), Bellville (Cape Town), Pietermaritzburg, and Sandton.

What are the requirements?

To be considered for a Mediclinic 2015 Nursing Bursary you have to meet the following requirements:

Must be a South African citizen;
Have a Grade 12 / Matric certificate with admission to higher certificate or an aggregate of 950 marks or more;
Must have passed the following subjects:
- English (40% or more)
- Biology OR Life Science OR Physical Science (40% or more)

SAPS Helicopter / Fixed-wing Pilot 2015 Bursaries (Female candidates)

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is inviting young and unemployed South African females who are interested in training to become Helicopter/Fixed-wing pilots to apply for their bursary programme – offered in partnership with the Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA). There is a total of nine (9) bursaries on offer, which will be awarded to young female South Africans between the ages of 18 and 35 years old.

What are the requirements?

In order to be considered for this bursary programme, applicants have to meet the following minimum requirements:

Have a Grade 12 (National / Senior Certificate) certificate with Mathematics and Science as passed subject (passed with 60% and above);
Have no criminal record or pending cases;
Be a well-disciplined, loyal and patriotic, unemployed South African female;
Be fluent in English and one other South African official language;
Be physically and mentally fit, have no height phobias (Acrophobia, Altophobia, Batophobia or Hypsiphobia);
Must be willing to go for: medical examination, basic police training and to serve in the SAPS for a duration of time to be determined by SAPS.

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform is currently offering bursaries to qualifying applicants who are South African citizens and wish to commence with tertiary studies during the 2015 academic year in one of the following fields of study. Females and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Fields of study to be funded through this bursary and minimum requirements:

You must be planning to study towards or currently studying towards any of the following qualifications:

BSc in Geomatics / Land Surveying at the University of Cape Town / University of KwaZulu-Natal (40 Bursaries Available)
National Diploma in Cartography or Surveying at any South African university of technology (20 Bursaries available)

You must have Mathematics and Physical Science in your Matric/Grade 12 in order to qualify.

2015 Liberty Bursary Programme

Bursaries are granted for full-time study of Actuarial Science at various tertiary institutions. Applicants must show the ability to innovate and share our passion for people; thus maintaining our competitive advantage.
Successful applicants are expected to do a minimum amount of vacation work during the June and December holidays at Liberty Life’s Head Office in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

Bursaries are reviewed after each examination based on the student’s academic performance and are renewed annually. All bursaries are granted on merit, but preference is given to black (African, Coloured and Indian) applicants.

Requirements:
• Excellent overall results including a distinction for higher grade mathematics.
• A minimum of two distinctions (including mathematics) if higher grade physical science is one of the incumbent’s subjects.
• A minimum of four distinctions (including mathematics) if physical science is not one of the incumbent’s subjects.
• At tertiary level, students must maintain continuous excellence in academic performance in all subjects.
• Good leadership qualities and participation in extramural activities such as sports, debating societies, chess clubs and various Olympiads, etc are an added advantage.

Costs Covered:
• Tuition fees are paid for each academic year of study and reviewed annually based on academic performance.
• Residence fees/subsistence allowance is paid for shared accommodation at a university residence.
• A monthly subsistence allowance is paid if the student chooses not to live at the university residence.
• A book allowance is paid annually for the purchase of textbooks.
• First year students qualify for a calculator allowance. Applications are open to all students regardless of the year of study. Once approved, the bursar will enter into an agreement with Liberty Life that will be renewed annually.
All bursars are obliged to complete a period of employment for every year of sponsorship. The standard employment contract will be entered into once studies are completed.
