The Local Government SETA (LGSETA) is inviting applications from South African youth between 18 and 35 years who are currently studying or intend studying towards a any qualification relevant its list of scarce skills and focus areas (see tables below). Candidates can either be unemployed or employed.

Read these notes carefully before completing the application form. Make sure that you read every section and that the information you provide is accurate.

  1. INCOMPLETE FORMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED (this includes forms with missing documents)
  2. The LGSETA does not take responsibility and will not be held liable for any forms which were undelivered or missing.
  3. Student who are granted a bursary from another organisation/institution are obliged to inform the LGSETA. The LGSETA have the right to withdraw funding awarded if the student receives a bursary elsewhere.
  4. The LGSETA bursary is annual award, therefore students will be required to re-apply annually to LGSETA.
  5. Non South African students will not be considered.
  6. The student must meet the entry requirements for the programme as required by the HET or TVET Institution. The qualification must be accredited on the NQF/N Levels.
  7. The LGSETA will only fund a course which falls within the scarce and critical skills areas in Local Government see Table 1 and 2 below:

The CSIR is inviting applications from master’s degree candidates and prospective candidates who are interested in researching the development of advanced communication networks. The successful candidates will join a Pretoria-based group of computer scientists, computer and telecommunication engineers working on Software Defined Networks, Network Function Virtualisation and Adaptive Transport Networks.

Candidates will receive a monthly salary, financial support and university fees, as well as subsistence and travel allowance for university meetings, for the duration of the Masters study.

What are the requirements?

The Capricorn District Municipality in Limpopo is inviting applications from unemployed young South Africans residing in any of its four local municipalities: Aganang, Polokwane, Lepelle-Nkumpi, Molemole and Blouberg. What are the requirements?

In order to be considered for the CDM Bursaries, you have to meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Have an excellent pass in your Grade 12 / Matric;
  • Be financially needy;
  • Be willing to study towards a water-related or engineering qualification;
  • Be a permanent resident of the Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) [Proof of residence from Municipality / local headman / tribal council is strictly required]; and
  • Must not be currently receiving any funding from any bursary or scholarship.

The South African Department of Arts & Culture is inviting applications from students currently in university OR matric learners planning to study towards a qualification in heritage related fields of study to apply for its 2016 Bursary Heritage Programme. The National Department of Arts and Culture Bursary will cover school fees (including registration), books, food and accommodation. The bursary will fund both undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in the fields listed below.

Qualifications eligible for the Department of Arts and Culture Heritage Bursaries:

  • Heritage resources management;
  • Archaeology (marine, etc.);
  • Museum management and curatorship;
  • Anthropology;
  • Conservation and Preventative Conservation;
  • Archives and records management;
  • Collections (cultural & natural) management;
  • Restorative and preventive conservation;
  • Conservation of the built environment;and
  • Indigenous Knowledge Systems.

Who is eligible to apply for these bursaries?

These bursaries are open to South African citizens who are currently students at a South African accredited institution of higher learning (University OR University of Technology) or Matric/Grade 12 learners accepted to study towards a heritage related qualification (see list above) in 2016. Applicants have to be financially needy and show academic potential. People with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

The City of Johannesburg’s water purification, distribution and management company, Johannesburg Water, is inviting applications for its 2016 bursaries for tertiary study in various study fields for 2016. The bursaries are open to various fields of study relevent to the operations of Johannesburg Water, for 2016 the bursaries will be awarded for the following areas of study: Communication, Public Relations, Journalism or Marketing; Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Civil Engineering. The Johannesburg Water 2016 Bursaries covers all costs of study including tuition fees, residence, and pays a cash allowance. Successful candidates will also work for Johannesburg Water during university vacations, and they will be paid for this.

What are the requirements?

To be considered for the 2016 Johannesburg Water Bursaries, you have to meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen;
  • Be willing to enter into a contract of employment with Johannesburg Water;
  • Must be studying towards the qualifications listed in the table below and meet the requirements listed opposite each:
Qualifications Requirements
Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or Journalism Must have completed the first year or higher level (i.e. you must be in 2nd year or above in 2016)
National Diploma: Electrical Engineering Must have completed S1 (i.e. you must be doing S2 or above in 2016)

BSc in Civil Engineering Must have passed Matric with 70% or more in Mathematics and Science OR must have completed 1st year of study or higher.

Limpopo-based hardware material supplier and retailer, EH Hassim Builders World, is inviting applications for its 2016 bursaries from South African citizens who matriculated in 2015 (i.e. you wrote your Grade 12 exam in 2015) that are accepted to study towards various business-related degrees (see requirements below) at a South African university starting in 2016. The EH Hassim bursary is a fully-paid, all-inclusive bursary and will thus pay for all your school and related fees while at university.

What are the requirements?

To be considered for the EH Hassim Builders World 2016 Bursaries you have to meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a recent matriculant (2015);
  • Must have achieved a Grade 12 pass with Admission to Bachelors Degree;
  • Must have obtained 70% or higher in the following marks:
    • English, Pure Mathematics & Physical Science or Accounting.
