The CSIR has an Internship opportunity in the Transport Infrastructure Engineering competence area within the Built Environment unit. The programme is designed to provide graduates with experience and understanding of research and development and the implementation thereof in projects. It is spread across various fields, with a strong focus in science, engineering, technology and mathematics. This opportunity is based in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities:

Contribute to basic desktop research and literature searches; Develop research skills and write reports; Assist with related laboratory and field investigations; Collect, clean and analyse data; Any other duties job-related tasks.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

Kuyasa Graduate Learnership (or just Kuyasa Learnership) is a graduate internship/learnership programme run by the BANKSETA (Banking Sector Education and Training Authority). The Kuyasa programme is aimed at graduates in fields relevant to the banking sector. The programme is currently accepting applications for 2018 opportunities. Successful candidate will be placed in training stations in the following cities: Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town.

What are the requirements for the BANKSETA Kuyasa Learnership?

  • You must have a minimum of a 3-year qualification in any of the following:
    • Information Systems
    • Informatics
    • Financial Accounting
    • Law
    • Financial Management
    • Risk Management
    • Marketing
    • Information Technology (IT)
    • Financial Markets
    • Statistics
    • Economics
    • Commerce
  • Must be a South African citizen

The CSIR has an opportunity for an Internship in the Transport Support Systems and Operations competence area within the Built Environment (BE) unit. The purpose of this job is to collect and
store data in relation to loading of heavy vehicles and to capture data collected during performance based standards (PBS) certification processes. This position is based in Pretoria, but travelling to other provinces for field work will be required.
Key responsibilities:
  • Conduct data collection for PBS certification processes, which includes field work;
  • Capture collected data, making use of in-house developed technology;
  • Conduct basic data validation and data analysis through technology;
  • Compile scientific reports;
  • Present scientific results;
  • Install and support CSIR applications to client’s sites.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
  • A Diploma or higher in information technology, information systems, informatics or computer science/ engineering;
  • Experience in data validation and data analysis is a requirement;
  • Ability to use distance measuring instruments is essential;
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Ability to function independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to perform under pressure and manage or contribute to projects within allocated time;
  • Must have a driver’s license and willing to undertake field trips on a regular basis.
