PURPOSE OF THE QUALIFICATION

The purpose of the Diploma in Nursing (NQF Level 6) programme is to develop a generalist nurse who can demonstrate focused knowledge and skills in general nursing. This programme takes into account the Primary Health Care (PHC) approach and encompasses the core competencies for disease prevention, health promotion, treatment and rehabilitation required to tackle the physical and psychosocial determinants of health, with the aim of contributing towards strengthening healthcare systems through delivery of comprehensive, high quality and safe nursing services.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Prospective students willing to register for this qualification must be in possession of a National Senior Certificate (NSC). Minimum Matric score of 25 points will be calculated according to standardized approved point system (APS). Only a maximum of 6 subjects will be scored and the following subjects are required:

IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER:

  1. An advertisement for nurse training posts appear in the local newspaper(s), local hospitals, clinics and KZN health website once a year – requirements of the training programme will be stipulated in the advertisement.
  2. Instructions on the advert are to be complied with, such as the information to be submitted and documentation to be uploaded with the application.
  3. It is not necessary to fill in application forms (Z83) at this stage.
  4. No hand delivered applications will be accepted or entertained.
  5. No applications are to be directed to the training institutions/hospitals or head office (Natalia), or the KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing.
  6. Ensure that the advertisement is read in its entirety especially with regard to responses to applicants.

  8. All shortlisted candidates will undergo a compulsory knowledge assessment, psychometric test, medical surveillance including a medical examination and verification of all documentation.
  9. The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health will offer financial assistance to successful candidates in the form of a bursary.
  10. Any applicant who have failed to complete the 4-year Diploma programme and was excluded for academic and/or any other reasons deemed so by the College Senate, will not be eligible for entry into the same programme.
  11. Successful candidates will be required to sign an agreement with the Department of Health, will be expected to attend as a full time student, be prepared to attend lectures and participate in work integrated learning (WIL) in shifts which shall include public holidays, weekends and nights, within the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health Hospital and Clinics as part of the programme requirements.
  12. On completion of training, students will be registered with the South African Nursing Council as General Nurse Category in line with the Nursing Act (Act No. 33 of 2005).

The SA Navy is offering young South African citizens an excellent opportunity to serve in uniform over a two-year period. The Military Skills Development System (MSDS) is a two-year voluntary service system with the aim of equipping and developing young South Africans with the necessary skills in order to compete in the open market.

Young recruits are required to sign up for a period of two-years, during which they will receive Military Training and further Functional Training.

All applicants must comply with the following:

  • South African Citizen (no dual citizenship).
  • Have no record of criminal offences.
  • Not be area bound.
  • Preferably single.
  • Be free from physical disabilities and not suffer from claustrophobia or a fear of heights.

Minimum Requirements for Applicants with Matric/Grade 12 only:

  • Combat applicants aged between 18 and 22 must have completed Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science at level 4.
  • Engineering and Technical Applicants aged between 18 and 22 must have completed Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science with at least Level 4 for both subjects.
  • Support applicants aged between 18 and 22 must have completed Grade 12.
  • Grade 12 statement of results for 2018 and before will not be accepted. (Grade 12 certificate is required)
  • The required APS (M score) for SA Navy is 24.

Requirements for Graduates:

The South African Department of Labour is inviting applications for its Pupil Inspector (Learner Inspector) [Reference No.:   HR 4/17/02/04 HO] bursary opportunities from prospective students who are either currently in Matric or have completed Matric with a pass of 60% or more in Mathematics and Physical Science. Students already at university or university of technology studying towards a relevant qualification and those sitting at home with a Grade 12 are also invited to apply. These bursaries are open to applicants currently studying or planning to study towards any of these fields in 2017:  Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering (Light / Heavy Current), Environmental Health / Science, and Mechanical Engineering. These opportunity is valued at R100 545 per year.

What are the requirements?

In order to be considered, applicants have to meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen;
  • Be currently in Matric / Grade 12 OR have a Grade 12 certificate and wish to study OR be a current student at a university or university of technology in any of the following fields:
    • Chemical Engineering,
    • Civil Engineering,
    • Electrical Engineering (Light / Heavy Current),
    • Environmental Health / Science, OR
    • Mechanical Engineering.
  • Current students must not be recipients of any bursary or other student finance;
  • Current matric students / those who completed Matric must have passed Physical Science and Mathematics with 60% or more.

The Mining Qualification Authority (MQA) would like to invite learners who excel in maths and science, who will be studying towards a a career in the mining and minerals sector, to apply for an MQA bursary. The MQA Bursary Scheme is open to qualifying grade 12 learners, or those currently writing their 2016 grade 12 examinations. Students who are studying towards a certificate, degree, diploma or B Tech at a University, University of Technology or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College also qualify.

The MQA Bursary Scheme funds the following:

The application period for the 2017 intake will open from 25 September 2016 and close on 31 October 2016.

Short-listed learners must submit their final matric results by 13 January 2017. Continuing bursars must also submit application forms by 13 January 2017.
