The CSIR has an Internship opportunity for an Intern in the Earth Observation Science and Information Technology (EOSIT) competence area within the Meraka Institute. The incumbent will assist in promoting, monitoring and interacting with project stakeholder communities through digital channels, including various social media websites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Linkedin, and Instagram. This position is based in Pretoria.
Key responsibilities:
  • Maintain digital community through the social media community channels and social advertising;
  • Help grow and engage user base;
  • Manage social listening efforts and report back to management;
  • Develop and curate digital content used to engage constituents;
  • Compile data, analyse and report on social media use;
  • Monitor and collate feedback, communicate with the team on current trending issues and post on blogs, forums and social networks;

UCT’s Communication and Marketing Department is seeking to appoint an Intern to work in the department’s Newsroom and Publications unit on a 1 year contract. The intern will have an opportunity to work on, and gain insight into, several of UCT’s communication initiatives across a range of digital and print media.

The intern will work under the guidance of the Newsroom and Publications unit and in tandem with the department’s Marketing and Online units. They will also receive exposure to other activities within the department.

Requirements

    • be in possession of, or be studying towards, a qualification in photography and/or videography with a strong interest in the media or communication industries
    • an enthusiastic self-starter
    • have excellent photography, visual communication, editing and writing skills
    • have experience editing images in Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere Pro
    • have an up-to-date portfolio of visual work (either published or unpublished)
    • have an interest in the changing world of photography, videography, digital marketing and communication, and preferably some exposure to, or experience with, digital and social media platforms
    • have a conscientious and committed work ethic and an interest in working in a changing communication environment – one that requires strategic thought and a willingness to engage responsibly
    • have a valid South African driving licence
    • It would be advantageous to have a showreel and portfolio of recent work

Responsibilities:

  • take professional, well-composed and engaging photographs and video for publications and online news
  • edit and process (add metadata, rename and file) photographs and videos accurately
  • source images from suppliers and online image libraries
  • set up appointments and manage deadlines
  • generate story leads and photo and video opportunities for online news
  • initiate contacts within the university community
  • conceptualise, plan and film short videos for use online and on social media platforms
  • generate visual concepts and ideas that enhance specific campaigns across a variety of media
  • support other sections of the Communication and Marketing Department wherever needed

The annual cost of employment is between R97 688 and R173 405. Shortlisted candidates will be expected to undertake a photographic assignment and video-editing exercise to establish their ability to work accurately and effectively under pressure.

Cenfri is looking for curious individuals with a passion for real world development to join the team as interns. The role of the intern would be to support research teams where needed, including, desktop-based research; data analysis; copy-editing, structuring of information and data into a clear and usable format; contributing to project outcomes and findings through critical analysis; and report writing.
