Choosing a career path as an undergraduate can be challenging. While you may have an interest in a particular area, you sometimes don’t know which path to follow until you’ve had some practical work experience. In our vacation programme, you will be placed in a technical field of your choice (where possible) for approximately three weeks to gain experience in that field and help you decide if it is right for you. The vacation programme is open to students currently studying towards a qualification in any of the following: Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geotechnical & Geological Engineering.

In our vacation programme you can:

  • Get a real taste of what it’s like to work at Aurecon and in your chosen field of study
  • Earn some money during your holidays
  • Work on real projects in a supportive environment
  • Learn from and partner with experienced professionals and current graduates
  • Start building your professional network
  • Get a feel for whether a graduate position at Aurecon is right for you

Aurecon’s vacation programme coincides with university holiday period, so students typically start after their exam period in November/December/January. At the end of the experience, we give our vacation students structured feedback on their performance to assist in their professional development.

The vacation work programme is designed to provide students with experience and understanding of research and development and the implementation thereof in projects. The CSIR in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology (DST) has Vacation Work opportunities in the field of data science and its associated entrepreneurial activities. The vacation work programme is designed to provide students with experience and understanding of research, development and the implementation thereof in projects with a strong focus in science, engineering, technology, innovation and mathematics. Applications are invited from candidates that are either currently studying towards or have completed a Bachelors in engineering, science, commerce or arts with majors in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, economics, entrepreneurship, public policy, graphic design and journalism. These opportunities are based in Pretoria.

About the programme:

The DSIDE programme is an intensive twelve week program (4 weeks in June/July and 8 weeks in December and January) that places students into multi-disciplinary teams working on real world problems from ICT-related fields.

Mentors from the CSIR data science practitioner community will provide guidance and support on all projects. The goal of the DSIDE programme is to give students an opportunity to solve a real problem in a real context and to give partners an opportunity to tap the skills and ingenuity of a student team. Some problems have been solved under the visual analytic framework with the goal of letting the data tell the story of “What happened”, “Where”, “How”, “When” and the “Value” of the insight. Teams will comprise of technical expertise, entrepreneurial expertise and public policy expertise for a truly interdisciplinary approach. Problems will come from domains such as education, social media, transportation, logistics, energy, smart urban development, government policy making, etc.

Qualification requirements:

  • Currently enrolled third, fourth and honours year students studying towards a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, commerce or arts with majors in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, economics, entrepreneurship, public policy, graphic design and journalism with good academic standing;
  • Ability to identify patterns, solve problems, have an analytic mind and hardworking;
  • Strong software development skills;
  • All applications must be accompanied by the following documents:
    • Certified copies of tertiary qualifications.
    • Certified copy of the latest academic record.
    • Certified copy of Identity Document
    • Copy of CV (1 page highlighting past experiences and academic work related to the position).

Are you currently studying towards a degree in any study field? Do you want to gain some real world work experience working with a company producing globally renowned products and brands during school vacations this June 2016? Procter & Gamble, the consumer goods company founded in 1837 in the United States by James Gamble and William Procter, and the producer of household brands such as Pampers, Oral-B and Gillete, is inviting applications from South African students who are seeking June 2017 vacation work for its June 2017 Vacation Work Internships, which  are open to South African students studying towards a degree in any field. The vacation work internships will be based in Sandton, Gauteng for a period of between four and six weeks this June.

What are the requirements?

  • Be studying towards a bachelor’s degree in a field;
