The CSIR in partnership with merSETA is pleased to announce a comprehensive bursary programme that is aimed at providing support for talented students in the field of engineering. The bursaries are designed to be especially attractive to those students that are considering a career in research, development and innovation. Both academic performance and financial need will be considered during the selection process, as well as the imperative to increase the participation of women and black people in engineering.

The CSIR invites applications from students who are already registered for full-time studies in their first year of study at undergraduate level in the 2019 academic year.

Requirements:

  • A South African citizen
  • Full-time enrolment at a South African university

The CHIETA has established a bursary programme to offer financial assistance to young South Africans who qualify to undertake full-time studies at any accredited South African Public Tertiary Institution within the following subsectors:

Petroleum Explosives Fast Moving Consumer Goods
Base Chemicals Fertilisers Specialty Chemicals
Glass Pharmaceuticals Surface Coatings

The following fields of study shall be prioritized for funding:

Analytical Chemistry Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering
Biochemistry Polymer Technology Environmental Science
Chemical Engineering Pharmacy Industrial Engineering
Biomedical Technology Operations Management Bachelor of Science

The bursary shall cover tuition fees as determined through statement of account up to the maximum capped amount of R76 000.00 for undergraduates and R80 000.00 for postgraduates. If there is a balance available then books and other expenses can be covered based on proof of expenditure up to the maximum capped amount.

Eligibility

  • South African citizen
  • Youth between the age of 16 to 35 years
  • Applicants who are currently studying at an accredited South African Tertiary Institution

Requirements

  • Applicants must complete in full the Bursary Application form and attach all supporting documents as stipulated in the application form
  • Proof of income
  • Attach a certified ID copy
  • Attach a certified copy of final Grade 12 results or recent statement of results.
  • Attach proof of registration

The State Information Technology Agency (SITA) is inviting application for its 2019 Bursaries from qualifying South African youth currently pursuing studies in ICT at any recognised South African tertiary institution.
The SITA ICT Bursaries will be awarded to 280 students.

Students in the following fields will be considered:

  • Information Technology (Engineering; Computer Science; Engineering and Data Analytics; Robotics, etc.);
  • Applied Sciences (Environmental Science; Biotechnology, etc.)
  • Any other non-technology and non-science studies (such as Agriculture, Social Studies) where the core subjects are enhanced with technology studies to empower students with the ability to analyse and solve social and economic issues more effectively using Fourth Industrial Revolution methodologies and technologies.

The SITA Bursary Scheme will cover the following costs:

  • Tuition Fees;
  • Prescribed Study Material;
  • Meal Allowance;
  • Accommodation; and
  • Transport.

The total cost of the bursary scheme per student per annum will be R124 400.

A maximum of R80 000.00 per annum will be awarded to successful students covering tuition, prescribed books/stationery, residence costs (no private accommodation) and meals.

  • Selection of successful students will be strictly on academic merit with pure Maths and Physical Science
  • No Bursaries will be granted to existing students who are not promoted to the next year.
  • In making the final selection, preference will be given to:

–      Previously disadvantaged individuals, Students from Rural Areas, students with Disabilities, Females and beneficiaries of Military Veterans

  • The bursary is renewable annually, based on academic performance/results

The West Coast District Municipality in partnership with the Department of Local Government: Western Cape (Provincial Treasury) will be offering four (4) bursaries for full-time studies at accredited tertiary institutions to youth residing in the West Coast Region. Two (2) Second-year students are invited to apply for a bursary for the 2018 and 2019 academic year and Two (2) First-year students are invited to apply for a bursary for the 2019 academic year, which will be extended to a maximum of three years, provided that the candidate adheres to the bursary conditions. The bursary is restricted to full-time study and attendance at an accredited University, University of Technology or a registered Private Higher Education institution and is eligible to individuals from historically disadvantaged societal groups or individuals with disabilities. The application window will open on 04 June 2018 and close on 31 July 2018 at 15:00 (CHIETA will attempt to ensure that feedback is given timeously, however if you have not heard from CHIETA by 17 August 2018 consider your application unsuccessful).

CHIETA reserves the right to determine the number of bursary allocations for the academic year based  on the  total available budget. Applications will be approved at the discretion of CHIETA Management.
