What are the requirements?

The Department of Cooperative Governance (DCoG); through the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the National Disaster Management Centre’s Bursary Programme for the 2020 Academic year. The NDMC’s Bursary Programme seeks to fund selected students enrolled for a higher qualification in Disaster Risk Science and/or Disaster Management at Public Institutions in South Africa.

CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY:

  • Applicants must have been admitted/accepted at a South African Public Institution of Higher Learning of their choice by the time the bursary is advertised; and
  • Students who are financially needy and are South African citizens.

REQUIREMENTS:

All REAP bursaries come from schools in rural areas all over the country and are pursuing a wide variety of fields of study in 16 recognized higher education institutions. The programme enables young people from marginalized communities who cannot afford higher education to poverty, lack of information, low-quality education, lack of information, historical apartheid discrimination or distance from educational hubs or urban centers.

With support coming from state mechanism, REAP is able to provide supplementary bursary funding including allowances, laptops and essential technical equipment. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme provides the core funding which will cover:

  • Tuition fee expenses
  • Accommodation expenses
  • Book fees
  • Meal expenses

In addition, REAP will be providing the following:

  • Monthly stipend
  • Comprehensive psychological support
  • Academic monitoring
  • Mentoring
  • Life skills training

What are the requirements?

In order to qualify for consideration for bursary support, REAP requires applicants to meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Must be from a rural area and have gone to a rural school
  • Must have taken the NSC exams at a rural school no more than two (2) years ago
  • NSC exam results must average to at least 55% (do not include Life Orientation marks)
  • Gross household/family income must not be over R122,000 per year
  • Able to furnish proof of household/family income and social grants as needed
  • Must have formally gainedBrenJ admission to a prescribed higher education institution
  • Must have been approved for NSFAS funding and obtained formal confirmation
  • Must have already secured residence or from an accredited NSFAS accommodation provider

List of learning institutions recognized by REAP

The number of students that can be awarded bursary support will depend on how many bursars the learning institution is able to accommodate: Thus, REAP recommends applicants to have higher academic qualifications to what the institutions require. Only applicants who have successfully gained admission to the following tertiary education institutions below:

  • Central University of Technology
  • University of Johannesburg
  • Nelson Mandela University
  • University of KwaZulu-Natal
  • University of Western Cape

What is the selection process?

REAP implements a fair and efficient recruitment and selection process that accurately assesses the following:

  • Household/family income
  • Course motivation
  • Academic performance

Applicants who get short-listed will get an invitation for a face-to-face interview.

Responsibilities of PwC bursary holders

Bursary holders are required to serve a three-year training contract with PwC on completion of their post-graduate studies. The contract may be extended for a longer period, depending on the financial value of the bursary and number of years for which it was awarded.

BSappi invites Matriculants or current undergraduate students who are interested in the Sappi bursary scheme to apply for the following study fields:

  • Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science – Mechanical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science – Electrical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science – Chemical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science – Industrial Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science – Civil Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science – Mechatronics
  • Bachelor of Science – Forestry and Wood sciences
  • National Diploma – Pulp and Paper

Sappi offers bursaries covering tuition, registration, books, residence and living allowances.

The total value of the bursary depends on the household income situation of the bursar.

Who may apply

South African citizens studying or intending to study full time at South African accredited universities.

The bursary is for school leavers and current university students aged between 18 and 25 years.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS CRITERIA

  • Matric results: Mathematics 70% (no Maths Literacy), Physical Science 70%, English 60%.
  • University results for current undergraduate students: Average of 70%.

Please attach the following documentation:

  • A copy of your matric certificate and any other academic qualifications you may have
  • Proof of your registration or provisional registration at an academic institution
  • A copy of your academic record to date
  • A recent curriculum vitae (CV)
  • A copy of your South African identity document
  • Proof of income or an affidavit stating your total household income.

Please note that preference will be given to applicants who live in areas adjacent to our main business operations.
