]]>The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. A Heavy Equipment Mechanic maintains, diagnoses faults in and repairs heavy equipment such as earthmoving or mining equipment, including engines, mechanical parts and hydraulically or electrically powered systems.
A Qualified learner will be able to:
1. Perform preventative and scheduled maintenance on heavy equipment.
2. Dismantle, assess, repair and reassemble heavy equipment engine and power train system components.
3. Diagnose and repair faults in heavy equipment diesel engine and power train systems.

]]>MA Automotive Tool & Die (Pty) Ltd produces vehicle body components and systems, as well as tools and devices for the sheet metal processing industry. In South Africa, MA Automotive Tool & Die (Pty) Ltd mainly manufactures for customers from the automotive industry. The vehicles produced here are mainly sold in South Africa, the States and in the right steering driving markets in Asia. The quality of the products and performance speaks for itself. More than 30% of the manufacturing volume is expected.
Apprentice programmes consist of a 4-year programme to be trained on Automotive press tools and assembly jigs.
Apprentices will be registered with MERSETA, and the quality assurance of the programme will be controlled by the QCTO.
To qualify for the Toolmaking apprenticeship programme at MATD, you need the following skills:

Grade 12 senior certificate with Mathematics, Science and English (minimum grade should be 60% and above), Engineering Drawing. Note no Mathematic Literacy will be accepted.
OR
TVET equivalent qualifications N3 with four subjects completed (Mathematics, Science, Mechanotechnics, Fitting and Machining/Toolmakers theory)
