Liberty offers Actuarial Science bursaries to full-time students from their second year. A Liberty bursary covers tuition; accommodation, meals and a travel allowance (where applicable); support; networking opportunities and vacation work. You will be guaranteed employment once you have completed your studies at university.

  • Maintain continuous excellent academic performance in all modules in first year of study;
  • Maintain an overall average above 60% and average 65% or more for mathematical and actuarial modules;
  • Good leadership qualities and participation in extramural activities such as sports, debating societies, chess clubs and various olympiads, etc. is an added advantage; and
  • South African citizen by birth or descent.

Purpose

To provide specialist actuarial support that enables sound commercial advice through the application of probability & investment theory and related statistical tools and the execution of predefined objectives as per agreed SOP’s.

Minimum Qualifications (qualification you should be studying towards)

Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas [NQF Level 07] in Mathematical Sciences

South African life insurance company, Liberty Life, is inviting applications for its 2017 Actuarial Bursaries from South Africans currently in Matric/Grade 12 and those already at university studying towards a Bachelors degree in Actuarial Science. At the completion of studies graduates will be appointed within the Liberty Life business operations.

Bursaries are granted for full-time study of Actuarial Science at various tertiary institutions. Applicants must show the ability to innovate and share our passion for people; thus maintaining our competitive advantage.  Successful applicants are expected to do a minimum amount of vacation work during the June and December holidays at Liberty Life’s Head Office in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

Bursaries are reviewed after each examination based on the student’s academic performance and are renewed annually. All bursaries are granted on merit, but preference is given to black (African, Coloured and Indian) applicants.

What are the requirements?

  • Excellent overall results including a distinction for higher grade mathematics.
  • A minimum of two distinctions (including mathematics) if higher grade physical science is one of the incumbent’s subjects.
  • A minimum of four distinctions (including mathematics) if physical science is not one of the incumbent’s subjects.
  • At tertiary level, students must maintain continuous excellence in academic performance in all subjects.
  • Good leadership qualities and participation in extramural activities such as sports, debating societies, chess clubs and various Olympiads, etc are an added advantage.

What costs are covered by the bursaries?

  • Tuition fees are paid for each academic year of study and reviewed annually based on academic performance.
  • Residence fees/subsistence allowance is paid for shared accommodation at a university residence.
  • A monthly subsistence allowance is paid if the student chooses not to live at the university residence.
  • A book allowance is paid annually for the purchase of textbooks.
  • First year students qualify for a calculator allowance. Applications are open to all students regardless of the year of study. Once approved, the bursar will enter into an agreement with Liberty Life that will be renewed annually.

All bursars are obliged to complete a period of employment for every year of sponsorship. A standard employment contract may be entered into once studies are completed.

Limpopo-based hardware material supplier and retailer, EH Hassim Builders World, is inviting applications for its 2016 bursaries from South African citizens who matriculated in 2015 (i.e. you wrote your Grade 12 exam in 2015) that are accepted to study towards various business-related degrees (see requirements below) at a South African university starting in 2016. The EH Hassim bursary is a fully-paid, all-inclusive bursary and will thus pay for all your school and related fees while at university.

What are the requirements?

To be considered for the EH Hassim Builders World 2016 Bursaries you have to meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a recent matriculant (2015);
  • Must have achieved a Grade 12 pass with Admission to Bachelors Degree;
  • Must have obtained 70% or higher in the following marks:
    • English, Pure Mathematics & Physical Science or Accounting.
  • Must be accepted at a South African university to study towards a qualification in any of the following fields:
    • Business or Commercial course
    • Actuarial Science
    • Civil Engineering

How to apply?
