Job Description

Our Marketing Trader Graduate Programme will help you develop hands-on knowledge and experience in Sales Operations, Market Intelligence and Trading during your 3-year rotation. 

Your rotation in Sales Operations will include:

  • Support contract management and execution
  • Support shipment execution and logistics planning
  • Assist in preparation of the shipping documentations for payment negotiation
  • Assist in maintaining the physical shipment files
  • Assist in checking the trade finance related matters

Your rotation in Market Intelligence will include:

  • Deliver market analysis in support of marketing, sales and trading activities covering the market, as a key input into commercial value generation
  • Support commercial value generation by delivering market intelligence through the process that includes gathering, collating, filtering, analysing and interpreting market data and information 
  • Distilling forward looking market analysis support into a price view
  • Providing analytical support to uncover price, geographical, timing and quality arbitrage opportunities which the trading team can action to generate additional value
  • Contribute to tactical & strategic planning around future product options to take advantage of identified arbitrages
  • Keep up to date with key developments in the industry by building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders and peers
  • Produce the monthly & quarterly market analysis used as input into the quarterly outlook reports and performance reporting

Your rotation in Trading will include:

  • Capturing and analysing market data from different exchanges
  • Assist in developing a framework capable of predicting market movements (flat price, time spreads, product spreads, market spreads)
  • Preparing documentation required for brokers and/or banking hedging counterparts

At the end of your 3-year rotation you will have an opportunity to be considered for a Trader role. 

Qualifications

  • You have a degree in Business Studies, International Business, Finance or similar subject
  • You are organised and are able to prioritise your work to meet deadlines
  • You have proven analytical skills with strong attention to detail
  • You are able to see the ‘big picture’ and take an objective view
  • You have good interpersonal skills and a ‘can do’ attitude
  • You have a strong ability to learn
  • You are computer literate (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • You speak English at business fluency level
  • You have the right to work in South Africa

BLAST (Building Leaders and Shaping Talent) is Anglo American’s flagship graduate programme. It aims to attract the brightest and best talent exiting university. The BLAST programme offers unique opportunities to the candidates on the programme. The BLAST proposition offers successful candidates the exposure to have 3 real roles across 2 continents in 4 years. The roles are carefully selected to ensure the BLASTer has the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and experience which will equip them to be part of the Emerging Talent population in the company. Every person has a customised development plan ensuring the person is well placed in the company to have a successful career.

Typically a career path on BLAST would initially be a role in South Africa, very closely aligned to the BLASTer’s field of study. This role could also be part of requisite training to achieve a professional qualification for example Government Certificate of Competency, Mine Manager Certificate or Chartered Account. This could take longer than 16 months. The second role is selected to gain additional experience, often closely aligned to your chosen discipline but will broaden your knowledge and skills. This is usually the international assignment. The last role is selected to ensure the BLASTer is well prepared for a role post the BLAST programme where you are placed within the business.

All BLASTers are encouraged to continuously develop, further advancing their knowledge and skills in their fields of study or related areas. All BLASTers will attend the Group Management programmes whilst on the BLAST programme. This includes The Achiever Programme (TAP) and Programme for Management Excellence (PME).

The Anglo American group of companies all participate in the programme and offer suitable roles for BLASTers. There are a large number of operations in South Africa and Southern Africa, as well as Brazil, Chile, Canada and Corporate offices in Johannesburg and London.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Applicants will have a 4 year degree or post graduate degree in disciplines that are relevant to our business in particular Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Business Science/Finance

Anglo American-owned platinum miner, Anglo Platinum, is inviting application’s for its 2016 internships in various mining-related study fields at its Mogalakwena Mine outside the town of Mokopane in the Mogalakwena Local Municipality, Limpopo. Interns are invited from various fields including: Mining Engineering, Surface Mining, Mineral Surveying, Chemical Engineering, Geology, Industrial Engineering amongst many others.

What are the requirements?

To be considered, applicants must meet the following requirements

  • You must reside within the local communities around Anglo Platinum’s Mogalakwena Mine (a proof of residence will be required when appointing candidates);
  • Must have a completed degree or diploma at NQF Level 6 / 7 in any of the following:
    • BSc: Analytical Chemistry (Degree);
    • BSc: Environmental Geology (Degree);
    • BSc: Geology (Degree);
    • BSc: Mining Engineering (Degree);
    • BSc: Geology (Degree);
    • BEng: Mechanical / Electrical Engineering (Degree)
    • BEng: Industrial Engineering (Degree)
    • BEng: Metallurgical Engineering (Degree)
    • BTech: Engineering Electrical
    • BTech: Engineering Industrial
    • National Diploma: Chemical Engineering
    • National Diploma: Industrial
    • National Diploma: Mining Engineering
    • National Diploma: Surface Mining
    • National Diploma: Mineral Surveying
  • Must be physically fit.
