Harmony Gold is one of South Africa’s leading gold producer and it is counted among world leaders in gold mining. The mining company is inviting students already studying and prospective students intending to study at a South African university to apply for their 2018 bursaries. The objective of the Harmony Gold Bursary Scheme is to recruit and select bursars preferably from communities surrounding our operations for full time study at accredited Tertiary Institutions. The Bursary Scheme accommodates students entering or already at Tertiary Institutions.

What are the requirements?

In order to be considered for the 2018 Harmony Gold Bursaries, candidates should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be either a learner in Matric or a student already at university;
  • If you have already passed Matric, you must have passed the following subjects (with Admission to Bachelor’s degree):
Maths Rating Level: 5 or 60%
Maths for Engineering Studies Rating Level: 6 or 70%
Science Rating Level: 5 or 60%
Science for Engineering Studies Rating Level: 6 or 70%
English Rating Level: 5 or 60%
  • Similarly, if you currently in Matric – you must achieve the above results;
  • The bursaries are open to various fields, applicants applying for bursaries with less than an achievement level of 6 in Mathematics and Science will not be considered for Engineering. Mathematics Literacy will not be accepted for Core Disciplines;
  • When applying, please ensure that you attach certified proof of your identity document and academic results. Do not send original documents. Current Matriculants must submit their Grade 11 final results (December results) and Grade 12 June results.

NMISA is offering an Honours degree bursary at a recognised South African University. The degree must be completed within a one year period based on the technical needs of the Photometry and Radiometry Section of the Electricity and Magnetism division. Upon successful completion (i.e. achieving a final mark of at least 65% in Physics), the bursar will be required to enrol for a Masters degree. NMISA is the custodian of the South African national measurement standards, thus the bursar will be working closely with experts on the realisation of the International System (SI) units in the Electricity and Magnetism division.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
· BSc degree, majoring in Physics and Mathematics with an average final year Physics mark of at least 65%
· Mathematical and statistical knowledge and subjects.
· Computer literate in MS Office
· Knowledge of optics/lasers/photonics will be an added advantage

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will be provided with photometric and/or radiometric projects that are aligned
to the laboratory’s needs to meet the requirements of their Honours degree.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities and competencies:
· Strong attention to detail and deadline conscious
· Enthusiastic and self-motivated
· Strong verbal and written reasoning
· Good writing skills and fluency in English and required (reading comprehension)
· Good planning and organising skills with an analytical approach to work tasks
· Compliant in order to follow organisational and laboratory rules such as policies and procedures
· Honesty and ethical behaviour is of the utmost importance when delivering on assigned tasks within the NMISA
· Ability to function within a team to achieve a common goal

THE BURSARY INCLUDES
The full costs of registration and tuition, residence fees and an allowance for study material and prescribed books. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to gain work experience at NMISA during vacations. Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to advance their studies beyond an Honours degree.

Wilmed Park Hospital in Klerksdorp makes nursing bursaries available to members of the community every year. Bursaries are for people wishing to study to become enrolled nurses.

Since January 2003, Wilmed Park Private Hospital has offered bursaries to members of the community who are interested in training as Enrolled Nurses. The following process is followed in selecting candidates:

  • During the months June & July of every year, bursary application documents and paper select score grids are made available.
  • Candidates have to rate their own matric results (or latest exam written if in matric) according to the score grid.
  • Candidates with an M-score of 15 (old curriculum) or 22 (new curriculum) may then submit the application document and supportive documents.
  • Only original/certified copies of required documents will be accepted. School leaving certificates must be authenticated by SAQA.

Closing date is strictly 31 July of every year.
