About the job:

Business Excellence and Integration has Business Analyst internship opportunity. The purpose of this internship programme is to assist within the business analysis space from a requirements and documentation perspective. The incumbent will also run user accepting testing exercises for all initiatives carried by the office and assist in facilitating requirements sessions. The internship program is for twelve months. This position is based in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities:

Under supervision, the intern will be required to:

  • Understanding the business requirements, and through a structured process, modeling, validating and translating it into business requirement specifications that are used by developers to craft a technical solution. The Principle Accountabilities for this position are:
  • Work on solutions supporting multiple business areas, integration points and a large number of affected components
  • Required to work under general direction within a clearly defined accountability framework
  • Gather and interpret requirements from the business
  • Participate in the solution design process
  • Prepare the requirements specifications
  • Define the success criteria for solution testing

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has an Internship opportunity in the Energy Centre. The incumbents will assist with increasing the profile of the Energy Centre and the CSIR by providing holistic, comprehensive communications support to the communications manager. This position is based in Pretoria.

About the Centre:

The Energy Centre at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), although still in the ramp-up phase, is the thought leader in South Africa with regard to solutions for the “South African Energy Transition” towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy sector. The Energy Centre currently hosts almost 40 highly experienced engineers and researchers. The vision is to become the first port of call for decision makers in policymaking, industry and science when it comes to the South African energy transition. Current research activities across the Energy Centre are resource and technology-specific research topics in solar and wind power-generation technologies, battery and hydrogen research, energy efficiency and demand response, energy-system planning and operation, as well as energy market design.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist with sourcing, developing and packaging content in order to effectively communicate the CSIR’s scientific achievements, research projects;
  • Protect and promote  brand CSIR at the Energy Centre by encouraging adherence to brand standards and coordination of unit brand collateral;
  • Offer comprehensive operational support in terms of administrative duties for the communications department;
  • Assist in the planning and execution of the Energy Centre events such as stakeholder visits, conferences, staff social events, etc;
  • Serve as entry point for enquiries relating to projects;
  • Participate in meetings to keep abreast of latest developments, recording of these sessions, communicating outcomes, setting up sessions, including some degree of community liaison;
  • Assist with generating and managing content for the project website, the Broadband-4-All wiki and other project-related websites;
  • Contribute to the building of a positive image of the CSIR and its research impact area activities and that of its stakeholders.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A three year diploma or bachelor’s degree in communications or related fields;
  • Good word processing and typing skills with a high accuracy rate;
  • Ability to extract information from an interview or document, write in popularised style;
  • Knowledge of digital media tools will be an advantage;
  • Proven ability to work in a team;
  • Knowledge of and the use of social media and wireless technologies will be an added advantage;
  • Willingness to travel to sites where the project team is working.

The successful candidate will rotate within the financial administrative functions within the financial shared services group.

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Accounts Receivable: Generate invoices to customers upon receipt of an approved request, and make follow-ups on all outstanding debtor accounts.
  • Accounts Payable: Review supplier invoices for validity against VAT legislation and CSIR policies and procedures; process supplier invoices to effect payment to suppliers; reconcile supplier accounts; and make follow-ups on all outstanding items.
  • Assets: Perform asset counts and make follow-ups on all discrepancies including possible redundant assets, asset register maintenance including processing of new assets, movements between custodians, write-offs etc.; and label and assign new assets to custodians.
  • General Ledger: Allocate costs; process journals; reconcile general ledger account; make follow-ups on all outstanding items; and reconcile all employee subsistence and travel claims for cost allocation and capturing.

 

Qualifications and skills:

 

  • Internship: A BCom degree.
  • In-Service Trainee: Studying towards a BCom degree or a National Diploma for which practical experience is a requirement in obtaining the qualification
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Mathematical and analytical ability.
  • Record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work accurate and pay attention to detail.
  • Knowledge on VAT.
  • General knowledge on double-entry accounting concepts of debits and credits and different methods of accounting including cash and accrual basis.

The CSIR Shared Services (SS) unit has a vacancy for an Internship: Shared Services Info Coordinator who will assist with with sourcing, developing and appropriately package content to effectively communicate SS brand, achievements, projects, outputs and outcomes for dissemination through various channels and platforms.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist with the implementation of SS communications strategy including channels, format of communications, policies, procedures, guidelines, operating model and functionality, as well as templates and ensure that this is reviewed and renewed to keep the interest of the user base.
  • Interact with and develop relationships with key stakeholders, such as CSIR Internal Communications and SS management team.
  • In conjunction with the manager and SS team, prepare and execute crisis communications programme, for example, service disruptions and scheduled maintenance communications, communications for projects and all other SS initiatives. In addition, collaborate to prepare and execute communications to show-case SS offerings and services, for example, brochures, road shows, workshops, etc.
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure that SS channels (e.g. Intraweb) are updated on a regular basis.
  • Work with SS teams to ensure effective internal communications streams are implemented and adapted as necessary to promote internal SS information flow and feedback.
  • Prepare an annual portfolio communications plan and a weekly list of ad hoc communications requests for consideration by the management team.
  • Assist in preparing a monthly SS newsletter for acceptance by the management team.
  • Assist stakeholders in establishing and maintaining a knowledge management system, such as end-user frequently asked questions (FAQs) knowledge base to foster self-service.
  • Participate in communications aspects in the change management processes and ensuring adequate communication and participation in the process.
  • Assist in administration required by SS operations with regard to communication related matters (e.g. compiling of reports, client workshops, workshops with specialist areas, etc.).
  • Work with SS Operations Office administrator to ensure the establishment of an archiving/filing system for SS communications in accordance with CSIR guidelines in order to create e reference repository for service alerts and general communications issued by the office.

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Media or equivalent.

The National Cleaner Production Centre of SA (NCPC-SA) is the dti’s key industrial sustainability programme, tasked with contributing to a competitive green economy and strengthening market access for SA industry. This is done by transferring resource efficiency and cleaner production (RECP) technologies and services to industry, aimed at achieving measurable economic, environmental and social benefits.

The NCPC-SA’s Internship Programme offers graduate and postgraduate students in the field of engineering (various disciplines), the opportunity to become part of this initiative and programme and gain valuable in-plant experience by assisting companies in addressing competitive challenges, production weaknesses and skills gaps. The in-plant company placements will be preceded by a ten-day intensive training programme and a qualified mentor will be assigned to support a group of successful applicants. Placement will be from 1 April 2013. These positions are based in Durban.

Requirements:

A 3-year National Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, Bachelor of Technology, Honours or Master’s qualification in any engineering field.
