]]> The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) intends to award comprehensive bursaries to qualifying applicants pursuing and/or intending to further their studies in critical scarce skills in the agricultural, forestry and fisheries sectors for the 2018 academic year. The bursary will cover tuition, accommodation, books, meals and monthly allowance. The bursary awards target the previously disadvantaged and impoverished persons from poverty-stricken and rural communities. People with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

6.     BSc Entomology

7.     BSc Forestry and Wood Science

8.     BSc Marine Biology

10.  BSc Ichthyology specialising in Aquaculture

11.  National Diploma: Food Technology

12.  National Diploma: Forestry

13.  National Diploma: Marine Science

14. Postgraduate studies (BTech, BSc, Hons, MTech, MSc, DTech and PhD) in different agricultural, forestry and fisheries fields of study relating to DAFF priority research projects. Successful candidates will be appointed as interns and placed with the relevant industry/research institution/institution of higher learning as young professionals. Successful candidates will also be allocated a mentor and will receive a monthly allowance from the Department.

    • BSc Oceanography and Marine Biology: University of Cape Town
    • BSc Ichthyology specialising in Aquaculture: Rhodes University
    • National Diploma: Forestry: Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University
    • National Diploma: Marine Science: Cape Peninsula University of Technology

]]> The national Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is inviting applications from current agriculture, forestry and fisheries students and matric learners intending to study towards any of the agriculture, forestry and fisheries-related qualifications below to apply for their 2015 Bursary Programme. This department has been issuing bursaries to students and matric learners for studying agriculture, forestry and fisheries-related careers for a number of years and most of their bursary recipients a doing very well both in the private and public sector of the South African economy.

What are the requirements for the 2015 Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Bursary Programme?

To be considered for a Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries bursary you have to be intending to study or currently studying towards one of the following and meet the specified requirements:

Degrees or Diplomas that are funded by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for 2014 Minimum requirements
1. Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc.)2. B.Sc. Bioresource Engineering (Agricultural Engineering) You must have a Matric/Grade 12 National Senior Certificate with the following subjects passed with at least Level 6 (70 – 79 percent pass mark):

6. B.Sc. Geo-informatics

7. B.Sc. Forestry and Wood Science

12. B.Sc. Oceanography and Marine Biology

Postgraduate Bursaries at the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries
Postgraduate studies in any agriculture, forestry and fisheries-related study areas linked to DAFF priority research projects at the following postgraduate levels:

  1. Baccalaureus Technologiae (BTech)
  2. Honours (BSc. Hon. / BScAgric.Hons)
  3. Masters (M.Tech. OR Msc.)
  4. Doctors (D.Tech. OR PhD)

The bursary will give preference to previously disadvantaged and poor people from deep rural communities that also poverty stricken. Anyone, including females and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Applicants have to be South African citizens.

What will a Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries pay for?

If you are awarded a bursary by the department, you can expect it to pay for your tuition fees (school fees), books, food, accommodation and also pay you a monthly allowance for the duration of the bursary. Please note: you may be required to work for the department when you complete your studies.
