What are the requirements?

  • Grade 12 plus National Diploma in Environmental Management/ Environmental Sciences/Nature Conservation (NQF Level 6) as recognised by SAQA.
  • Computer literate and have excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.

Duties :

  • Provide support in conducting environmental awareness activities in municipalities, advocacy groups and schools. Promote conservation of natural resources, air quality, waste management, sustainability and climate change education. Deliver presentations in schools, or host groups at sites such as nature reserves. Participate in implementation of selected departmental natural resources management programmes and BKB clean-up campaigns in Municipalities. Host exhibitions on environmental issues. Assist schools establish environmental projects. Candidates should take responsibility for administration work including record keeping and filing. Keep stock of stationery and consumables. Communicate and maintain good relations with co- workers, supervisor(s) and relevant stakeholders. Perform any other administrative and professional duties as and when required.

The Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) is inviting applications from unemployed Johannesburg residents between the ages of 18 and 35 for its 2014/2015 internship programme. The programme will last for a period of twelve months and interns will be based at various JCPZ operations across the Johannesburg region; interns will be paid a monthly stipend R3,800.

What are the requirements?

The National Metrology Institute of South Africa is inviting graduates with a B Degree in Safety Management and /or Environmental Science or a related field to apply for an internship vacancy that exists in its SHEQ Department. The intern will be responsible for assisting the SHEQ Department in ensuring the maintenance of safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) systems in line with the existing NMISA Total Quality Management System.

Your responsibilities and tasks will include:

  • Assist with management of operational controls associated with hazard, aspect, impact and risk identified
  • Assist with conducting hazard/aspects identification and risk/impact assessment
  • Assist with SHEQ activities, internal audits and action requests
  • Ensure that filing is up to date (electronic and hard copy filing)
  • Assist with SHEQ management system documentation, document control and record keeping
  • Application of EHS legislation and other requirements
  • General SHEQ tasks as and when required

The main requirements for this position are:

  • A Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science / Safety Management or related field
  • Basic knowledge of relevant EHS legislation
  • Experience in a technical field will be an added advantage
  • Proficient in MS Office software packages
  • Basic Knowledge of Management System standards, particularly ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 and ISO/IEC 17025.
  • Good administrative skills

The position requires a pro-active person with a positive attitude, attention to details, who has willingness towards continuous learning. An individual who follows/executes tasks according to prescribed procedures/policies. Good communication, professionalism and good interpersonal skills are needed. Telephone etiquette and fluency in English is required as the candidate will be expected to communicate with individuals at all levels.
