  • Engineering: Planning and design of high voltage, medium voltage and low voltage distribution systems/project management/customer connections
  • Geo-Information Science (GIS): Geo-Informatics / Cartography / Geography
  • Measurement: Automation, operations and investigations
  • Electronic Security Support Services (ESSS): Provision and maintenance of access control, intrusion alarms, CCTV, electric fences, and fire alarms for electricity infrastructure
  • High Voltage: Operations, repairs and maintenance, plant performance, fault investigations of 11 x 132kV substations (switchgear, transformers, batteries and ancillary equipment), underground cables and overhead lines.

What are the requirements?

The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) in conjunction with the Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA) hereby offers unemployed graduates an 18-months internship in the local government sector.

MISA is a component of the Department of Cooperative Governance (DCoG) established in terms of Section 7(2) Schedule 3 of the Public Service Act of 1994 (as amended), established to build technical capacity of municipalities to undertake efficient planning, delivery, operations and management of municipal infrastructure, amongst other functions.

Whilst the programme is not exclusively limited to individuals from previously disadvantaged communities, MISA strives for excellence in the context of service delivery and skills development and encourages historically disadvantaged individuals to apply. This is a workplace internship programme to assist graduates with career mobility and employability in line with the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS III).

Graduate Interns will be placed in local government under the tutelage of an experienced qualified municipal supervisor official for on-the-job supervision for 18-months covering the following Built Environment Technical disciplines:-

  • Civil Engineering
  • Town Planning
  • Water & Sanitation
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Waste Management
  • Construction
