There are a number of different research projects that take place at SASRI which are clustered into four multidisciplinary programmes, namely; Variety Improvement, Crop Protection, Crop Performance & Management and System Design and Optimisation.

The South African Sugarcane Research Institute (SASRI) is offering a graduate programme and;

We require:

  • A B.Sc. or B.Com. in Computer Science or Business Information Systems
  • Excellent communication skills in English

  • Good logical reasoning and problem-solving ability

  • Basic html skills
  • Knowledge/Experience in designing databases, developing and maintaining applications

The purpose of the Internship is to:

  • Provide workplace experience to graduates allowing them practical exposure that will enrich their academic training, enhancing future employability.
  • Provide additional skills development training that will stimulate personal and professional growth, provide life skills and boost work readiness (Basic Business, Technical and Life Skills Training) through formal mentorship.

Term of the Internship:

  • Participants will be offered a one year contract.

The Intern: Electoral Matters will contribute towards the efficient co-ordination of electoral matters projects in the Province. The Intern reports to the Manager: Corporate Services.

Key performance areas: Assist in financial administration, asset management, recruitment and training. Report writing and office administration both in finance, Human resources, Procurement of goods and services. The department requires the service of a person who would also assist with filing of the contracts for service providers.

Basic requirements: The successful candidate must be in possession of an appropriate tertiary qualification BCom degree or Diploma in Business Management (HR or Finance related). The ideal candidate will possess the following competencies and attributes: computer literacy; project management knowledge; good verbal and written communication skills; good interpersonal and conflict management skills; accuracy; good numerical ability; ability to work under pressure; integrity and team player.

Business Rationale
The Junior Professionals Program for Black individuals of Sub-Saharan African ancestry and US Minorities is an internship program managed by the WBG Office of Diversity Programs. The purpose of the Program is two-fold: providing young and motivated individuals from these groups who possess outstanding potential with a unique opportunity to gain experience in a global development environment while allowing the WBG the opportunity to benefit from the talent, knowledge and diversity that these professionals bring.The Program is also designed for participants to contribute to capacity development efforts in developing countries and minority communities around the world. It enables young women and men from these demographic groups to spend two intensive years acquiring global knowledge and practical, on-the-job skills in the World Bank Group. Eligibility Criteria
  • 35 years of age or younger, with a minimum of three years of relevant work experience, and excellent academic qualifications.
  • Afro-descendant, i.e. Black of Sub-Saharan African descent, and/or US citizen from minority groups.
  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in economics, finance, public health, environment, engineering, public or private sector management, anthropology, sociology, education, human resources management or other disciplines relevant to international development.
  • Proficiency in English and in at least one other working language of the World Bank Group (Arabic, Chinese, French, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish).
  • Demonstrated commitment to global development.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct analytical work; exercise good judgment; operate in a team-environment; and work successfully with diverse clients and staff.

Note: Candidates who previously have had a staff position (fixed-term or open-ended, in Washington or in a country office) in the World Bank Group are not eligible to apply.

Additional Note: Through June 30, 2012, preference will be given to US Minorities. The Application Candidates are not applying for existing positions. Murray and Roberts invites suitable candidates who needs to complete an in-service training for their qualification to apply for a place on their in-service training programme. There are only 8 positions on the programme.

The contract to the company is only for the year of which the in-service training is required for and does not continue thereafter. In-service training students can be considered for bursaries after completion of their in-service training, but this is at the sole discretion of the company and will largely depend on the business need. In-service training students will be placed out on site where their skills are required and this can be anywhere in South Africa, therefore relocation is possible.

What are the requirements?

-You must have completed 1st year of theory or all theory
-In need of a full year in-service training experience
-South African / permanent residents

The national department responsible for agriculture forestry and fisheries has internship opportunities for approximately 270 openings for internships, experiential training, agricultural interns and bursaries for B-Tech, honours, masters and doctorate.

The opportunities are divided into:

  1. Post-graduate bursaries. There are 60 openings for these categories. And they pay for courses starting at degree level (B-tech only), Honours, Masters and Doctorate (PhD) level.
  2. Young agricultural export technologists. A three-year relevant qualification (degree or national diploma) is a requirement. There are 30 opportunities.
  3. Entrepreneurship development programme. This requires people who are or want to start business in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector. There are 30 openings.
  4. Internships and experiential training. The are a staggering 150 opportunities in this category.

And the money?

This programme pays a stipend. And it states that for interns it will pay R57 460 per year, and for experiential trainees it promises to pay R33 124 per year.
