Are you a graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in with any two of the following university subjects: Political Science, Political Economy, International Relations, Economics, African Studies, Law, Foreign Languages, International Trade and Investment, Development Studies, and/or Development Economics? Are you looking for an internship or an opportunity to gain practical work experience? The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) is inviting applications for its Johny Makhathini Ubuntu Diplomatic Corps programme, named after Johnstone “Johny” Mfanafuthi Makhathini, the late freedom fighter and head of International Affairs for South Africa’s liberation movement who died while in exile in Zambia in 1988 – the programme is a cadet learnership programme comprising both practical and theoretical components aimed at training learners/trainees for a South African International Relations Practitioner career.

What are the requirements?

  • Have a Bachelors Degree with two or more of the following subjects: Political Science, Political Economy, International Relations, Economics, African Studies, Law, Foreign Languages, International Trade and Investment, Development Studies, and/or Development Economics;
  • Be between 18 – 35 years on 15 August 2014;
  • Be a South African citizen;
  • Be computer literate;
  • Have information gathering and analytical skills;
  • Have interpersonal skills;
  • Advantage: Have a valid Code B driver’s license;
  • Advantage: Be fluent in a foreign language.
