The Intern: Outreach will contribute towards the efficient co-ordination of the communications plans and stakeholder management processes of the organization. The Intern will report to the Deputy Manager’s Outreach.

Responsibilities/Duties

Key performance areas: Assist staff with co-coordinating communication plans, that is, both internal and external; maintaining liaison with all major communications stakeholders including the print and electronic media, managing the publicity plans of the province, promoting the internal publication tools that are operating in the province, monitoring progress in the communications area, liaising with all stakeholders relevant for elections, developing partnerships with stakeholders in order to achieve electoral goals, preparing reports and disseminates information, coordinating Continuous Democracy Education programs, capturing and approving of events on the Outreach Management Systems.

General Administrative support services: Record minutes, write reports, handle routine enquiries, make photocopies, send and receive facsimiles, distribute documents/packages to various stakeholders as required. Keep and maintain the filing system for the office, Keep and maintain incoming and outgoing correspondence of the component and coordinate meetings. Assist with selected duties so as to obtain exposure to Corporate Services and Electoral Operations, etc.

Requirements

Basic requirements:  Applicants must be in possession of Matric / N3 certificate and a tertiary qualification (Degree or Diploma) in Communications / Humanities (a post-graduate qualification will be an added advantage). 

The candidate must possess good communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. He/ she must be computer literate with good working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel and possess the following attributes: ability to work under pressure; be prepared to work long hours; pro-active; decisive; confident and be service driven.

The CSIR has an Internship opportunity in the Communication Office within the Material Science and Manufacturing (MSM) Unit. The incumbent will be responsible for increasing the profile of the MSM and the CSIR, by providing holistic, comprehensive communications support to the units Communications Manager. This includes developing and appropriately packaging written content concerning the organization’s work for dissemination through various media platforms. This position is based in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities:

  • Source, develop and appropriately package content in order to effectively communicate the

CSIR’s scientific achievements, research projects, outputs and outcomes, SET Base profiles, social impact, or creation of commercial value for dissemination through various channels platforms, and media. This will include active participation in all layers of the process which includes:

o Conceptualisation: the sourcing, researching, formulating, brainstorming and pitching content matter; as well as planning the execution.

  • Copy writing: producing quality copy in short and long formats for various materials and channels – this includes (but is not limited to): press releases, web and intraweb stories, brochures, presentations, advertisements and video.
  • Supplier liaison: under the supervision of the communications manager negotiate, plan and liaise with suppliers and service providers to produce final products.
  • Protection and promotion of the CSIR brand, encourage adherence to brand standards and coordination of unit brand collateral;
  • Offer comprehensive operational support in terms of administrative duties for the communications department;
  • Assist in the planning and execution of unit events such as stakeholder visits, conferences staff social events, etc.;
  • presentations, brochures, websites, editorial pieces, media releases and newsletters;
  • Serve as entry point for enquiries relating to the project;
  • Participate in meetings to keep abreast of latest developments, recording of these sessions, communicating outcomes, setting up sessions, including some degree of community liaison;
  • Generate and manage content for the project website, the Broadband-4-All wiki and other project-related websites; and
  • Contributing to the building of a positive image of the CSIR and its RIA activities and that of its stakeholders.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related fields;
  • Knowledge in a field which required science writing as primary deliverable is essential.
  • Proven ability to extract information from an interview or document, write in popularised style and deliver a high standard of written work will be an added advantage;
  • Proven ability to work in a team;
  • Knowledge of social media, and specifically wireless technologies, will be an advantage;
  • Willingness to travel to other CSIR sites.

Distell offers an exciting opportunity of a Media Internship to a suitable candidate in our Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Department. This position will be part of the Corporate and Regulatory Affairs team, based at Distell Libertas Parva, Stellenbosch. The successful candidate will report to the Group Communications Manager.

Purpose of the position:

The intention is to give practical work experience to students who are in their last year of study and require In-Service Training in order to obtain their qualification and/or those recently graduated but unemployed and require exposure in a work environment.  Successful interns will be expected to enter into a 12 month contract commencing 01 February 2017 and terminating 31 January 2018.

Key Learning Areas include (but are not limited to):

  • Assisting with Copywriting and editing (e.g. Media Releases and articles for publication in various internal and external media platforms).
  • Assisting the Group Communications Manager in strategy execution and administration.
  • Assisting with generation of content for social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest).

The South African National Aids Council (SANAC) leads South Africa’s response to the national HIV and AIDS, TB & STIs epidemics. This is a learnership opportunity for a young graduate to develop and implement the SANAC young women’s social media and community advocacy campaign. The National She Conquers Campaign for Young Women and Girls, is a 3-year coordinated campaign to intensify efforts to enable adolescent girls and young women to reach their potential and maximize their contribution to a democratic South Africa. Communications, community advocacy and the use of multi-media is an important SANAC contribution and element to the success of the national response to girls and young women. The graduate will be based at the SANAC secretariat office in Hatfield. This will be a great learning opportunity for the graduate who will benefit from the expertise, skills and experience held by SANAC secretariat colleagues through a planned mentorship.

Position : Young Women & Girls Communications Learnership

Duration : 12 months

Stipend : R5000 per month

Key Responsibilities:

  • Graduate will familiarise themselves with the entirety of SANAC and the national She Conquers campaign including DREAMS, the Global Fund Programme for young women and girls and the KfW programme on young women in Buffalo City
  • Engage with girls and young women on the ground and facilitate community dialogues to inform the development on an advocacy agenda and social media strategy for girls and young women programming
  • Support the development of an internal SANAC communications, advocacy and social media guideline
  • Guide and support the implementation of  the social media campaign and community advocacy campaign, including live feeds of events and engagements
  • Develop relevant material and messaging to mobilise and create excitement for the national campaign at the community level particularly amongst girls and young women
  • Identify opportunities to highlight campaign activities and achievements in the media and communities and attend events on behalf of SANAC
  • Track social media presence and influence in the uptake by beneficiaries of campaign package of services
  • Capture stories of young women, programme beneficiaries and stakeholders implementing She Conquers for the purpose of informing planning, documenting programmes, and advocacy purposes.

Requirements:

  • Recently graduated or currently studying towards a degree in Media Studies, Public Relations or related degree
  • Communications experience would be advantageous
  • Social media knowledge
  • South African National
  • Between 18-30 years
  • Proficiency in writing and oral communication
  • Strong understanding of the social issues faced by girls and young women in South Africa
  • Willing to travel

South African diversified mass media company, Media24, is inviting applications for its 2017 Internships from unemployed South African graduates and current final year students in various fields (journalism, media studies, multimedia, audio visual, video production, information technology, computer science, software development, marketing, and related qualifications).
