]]>The Mining Qualification Authority (MQA) would like to invite learners who excel in maths and science, who will be studying towards a a career in the mining and minerals sector, to apply for an MQA bursary. The MQA Bursary Scheme is open to qualifying grade 12 learners, or those currently writing their 2016 grade 12 examinations. Students who are studying towards a certificate, degree, diploma or B Tech at a University, University of Technology or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College also qualify.
The MQA Bursary Scheme funds the following:
1. Disciplines at Universities or Universities of Technology:

NB: Preference will be given to female learners, learners with disabilities and learners living in rural communities.
Application Window
The application period for the 2017 intake will open from 25 September 2016 and close on 31 October 2016.
Short-listed learners must submit their final matric results by 13 January 2017. Continuing bursars must also submit application forms by 13 January 2017.

]]>The MQA bursary scheme was established to increase the number of students taking careers in the mining and minerals sector. Today the bursary scheme continues to assist students by offering them the opportunity to study these careers at Higher Education and Training (HET).
The MQA bursary covers full tuition, accommodation, meals and book allowances. The bursary will be awarded to students enrolled in careers identified in the scarce and critical skills list, particularly in core mining related disciplines.
What are the requirements?
The minimum criteria required include a strong academic record accompanied by a need for financial assistance. Applicants must also have genuine interest in and knowledge of the mining and minerals sector.
The MQA bursary supports the following core mining disciplines:
Students studying the following disciplines will also be considered, although there are limited bursaries available:
Special consideration will be given to female applicants as well as applicants living with disabilities.
The MQA carries a service obligation and successful applicants will be obligated to secure employment within the South African mining and minerals sector for the same amount of years as the sponsored bursary.
