]]>NMISA is offering undergraduate bursaries at a recognised South African University. Upon completion, the bursars will be required to work one year for every year sponsored at NMISA. Successful graduates will follow an exciting career at NMISA in the Science of Accurate Measurement (Metrology). NMISA is the custodian of the South Africa national measurement standards, thus you will be working closely with experts on the realisation of the International System (SI) units in the Electricity & Magnetism division.

]]>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
· BSc degree, majoring in Physics and Mathematics with an average final year Physics mark of at least 65%
· Mathematical and statistical knowledge and subjects.
· Computer literate in MS Office
· Knowledge of optics/lasers/photonics will be an added advantage
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will be provided with photometric and/or radiometric projects that are aligned
to the laboratory’s needs to meet the requirements of their Honours degree.
PERSON SPECIFICATION

· Enthusiastic and self-motivated
· Strong verbal and written reasoning
· Good writing skills and fluency in English and required (reading comprehension)

THE BURSARY INCLUDES

]]>The Organic Analysis Laboratory has an opportunity for post-graduate studies in the certification of reference materials. The laboratory is currently involved in characterization and validation work for the SI-traceable, accurate value-assignment of multiple mycotoxins in maize. Matrix reference materials are used by routine testing laboratories to assess the accuracy of their analytical methods and in proficiency testing schemes.
(1) MSc Chemistry
Subject area: Analytical (Organic) Chemistry: The development of a maize reference material, using various sample preparation and instrumental analysis techniques, including liquid chromatography – tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and liquid chromatography coupled to UV and fluorescence spectrophotometric detectors (LC-UV/FLD).
Minimum requirements
BSc HONS (Chemistry or Biochemistry) with experience or in-depth knowledge of instrumental analysis (liquid chromatography and/ or mass spectrometry) and extraction techniques such as liquid-liquid extraction and solid phase extraction. Academic qualifications should have a minimum achievement level of 60%.
Tuition fees will be covered by the NMISA and the successful student will receive R 120 000 per annum.
