The NMISA is mandated by the Act to provide for the use of the international system of units (the SI) and other measurement units in South Africa, to maintain national measurement standards (NMS) and to determine and ensure the comparability of the NMS.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accurately capture invoices in the accounting systems in order to effect payment timeously and accurately to creditors.
  • Accurately prepare monthly and daily reconciliations of creditors’ accounts with the suppliers’ statements and age analysis.
  • Prepare reconciliations and payments for the travel expenses and reimbursement claims.
  • Assist with asset management
  • Capture payments into ACCPAC daily.
  • Ensure that petty cash is reconciled weekly and is replenished and available.
  • Record petty cash transactions in the general ledger weekly.
  • Assist with invoicing of clients booked on small contracts database, including general financial administration.
  • Liaising with customers for the acceptance, notification, and collection of instruments.

Minimum Qualifications, knowledge and Experience

  • Degree in Finance or related qualification.
  • Knowledge of all relevant legislation (PFMA, etc.)
  • Competent in MS Office Software package
  • Analysing, quality and detailed orientation
  • Good communication skills and report writing skills

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is self-motivated and very detail conscious, dependable and will act in an understanding and helpful manner while performing tasks associated with the position.   • Filling of SCM document
  • Prepare and arrange meetings

  • Upload tender document into the system (Website)
  • Perform any other assigned job with regard to Supply Chain Management
  • Update and follow up expired documents such as Tax Clearance and BBBEE certificates and SBD forms with suppliers
  • Perform the help desk function
  • Follow-up on supplier’s invoices, statements, orders etc.
  • Document management and proper filling of SCM documents
  • Coordinate the supplier payment process by registering, processing and forwarding invoices from suppliers to Finance Officer for payment
  • Receive delivered goods and verify

Internship: Communications, Marketing and Branding (12 Months) vacancy is available within the National Metrology Institute of South Africa (NMISA) for a Public Relations/ Marketing/ Communications graduate. The successful candidate will be exposed to and gain experience in all aspects of our Marketing and Communications functions in the Info Comms Section.

The National Metrology Institute of South Africa (NMISA) is mandated by the Measurement Units and National Measurement Standards Act, No 18 of 2006, under the auspices of the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) to maintain, develop and disseminate the National Measurement Standards for South Africa.  In essence, the NMISA provides the international link to traceability for all measurements in South Africa and hence contributes to South Africa’s global competitiveness.

Measurements include, amongst others, electrical measurements (voltage; capacitance; resistance etc.); chemical measurements (amount of substance; certification of reference materials, etc.); optical measurements (refractive index; optical power; laser wavelength, etc.) and mechanical measurements (force; mass; pressure; torque).

Salary Range (differentiated according to the level of qualification): R 6070- R 8050

12 months contract

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Source corporate /marketing merchandise by liaising with suppliers, getting approval, placing orders, taking stock and ensuring the distribution of merchandise
  • Manage the ordering process of all advertising materials, such as posters, invitations, certificates, posters, technical brochure for all departments at NMISA
  • Coordinate information for the NMISA internal monthly calendar
  • All external event management functions (planning, organising and executing events), assisting with internal events
  • Management and Development of event collateral and promotional supplies for the event
  • Build NMISA brand by updating and connecting with customers on the following social media platforms  Facebook and Twitter
  • Continually monitor and suggest improvements for the usability, content and organic search conversion points of NMISA’s website to support the company’s growth objectives with the IT department and agency
  • Placement of website banners to drive traffic to the website on partners websites i.e. the dti, department of science and technology, CSIR etc. to increase search ranking on SEO
  • Draft and edit content for Internal and External Communications

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience required:

  • B.A or B.Tech in Public Relations/ Marketing/ Communications
  • Higher qualification would be an advantage
  • No experience required
  • Competent in MS Office Software package
  • Organising skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)

The internships will be based at NMISA’s Gas Analysis Laboratory in the Tshwane Metropolitan Area. What are the requirements?

Candidates are required to meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Have Bachelor Science (BSc) degree in Chemistry or a Baccalaureus Technologiae (BTech) degree in Analytical Chemistry; or higher qualification;
  • Be computer literate in Microsoft Office, particularly in the MS Excel application;
  • Have technical knowledge of the following:

o   Spectroscopic methods,

o   Gas chromatography together with other detectors,

o   Technical knowledge of various analytical quantification procedures, such as instrument calibration using external/internal standards.

The intern will be responsible for assisting the SHEQ Department in ensuring the maintenance of safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) systems in line with the existing NMISA Total Quality Management System.

Your responsibilities and tasks will include:

  • Assist with management of operational controls associated with hazard, aspect, impact and risk identified
  • Assist with conducting hazard/aspects identification and risk/impact assessment
  • Assist with SHEQ activities, internal audits and action requests
  • Ensure that filing is up to date (electronic and hard copy filing)
  • Assist with SHEQ management system documentation, document control and record keeping
  • Application of EHS legislation and other requirements
  • General SHEQ tasks as and when required

The main requirements for this position are:

  • A Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science / Safety Management or related field
  • Basic knowledge of relevant EHS legislation
  • Experience in a technical field will be an added advantage
  • Proficient in MS Office software packages
  • Basic Knowledge of Management System standards, particularly ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 and ISO/IEC 17025.
  • Good administrative skills

The position requires a pro-active person with a positive attitude, attention to details, who has willingness towards continuous learning.
