The KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing (KZN CN) is inviting applications for their 2022 Nursing Intake from young South Africans resident in KwaZulu-Natal. Applicant must be in Grade 12 OR already have passed Grade 12.

PURPOSE OF THE QUALIFICATION

The purpose of the Diploma in Nursing (NQF Level 6) programme is to develop a generalist nurse who can demonstrate focused knowledge and skills in general nursing. This programme takes into account the Primary Health Care (PHC) approach and encompasses the core competencies for disease prevention, health promotion, treatment and rehabilitation required to tackle the physical and psychosocial determinants of health, with the aim of contributing towards strengthening healthcare systems through delivery of comprehensive, high quality and safe nursing services.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Prospective students willing to register for this qualification must be in possession of a National Senior Certificate (NSC). Minimum Matric score of 25 points will be calculated according to standardized approved point system (APS). Only a maximum of 6 subjects will be scored and the following subjects are required:

IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER:

  1. An advertisement for nurse training posts appear in the local newspaper(s), local hospitals, clinics and KZN health website once a year – requirements of the training programme will be stipulated in the advertisement.
  2. Instructions on the advert are to be complied with, such as the information to be submitted and documentation to be uploaded with the application.
  3. It is not necessary to fill in application forms (Z83) at this stage.
  4. No hand delivered applications will be accepted or entertained.
  5. No applications are to be directed to the training institutions/hospitals or head office (Natalia), or the KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing.
  6. Ensure that the advertisement is read in its entirety especially with regard to responses to applicants.
  7. Due to the large number of applications anticipated, only successful applications will be responded to.
  8. All shortlisted candidates will undergo a compulsory knowledge assessment, psychometric test, medical surveillance including a medical examination and verification of all documentation.
  9. The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health will offer financial assistance to successful candidates in the form of a bursary.
  10. Any applicant who have failed to complete the 4-year Diploma programme and was excluded for academic and/or any other reasons deemed so by the College Senate, will not be eligible for entry into the same programme.
  11. Successful candidates will be required to sign an agreement with the Department of Health, will be expected to attend as a full time student, be prepared to attend lectures and participate in work integrated learning (WIL) in shifts which shall include public holidays, weekends and nights, within the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health Hospital and Clinics as part of the programme requirements.
  12. On completion of training, students will be registered with the South African Nursing Council as General Nurse Category in line with the Nursing Act (Act No. 33 of 2005).

The Mpumalanga Department of Health invites residents of the Mpumalanga province to apply for enrollment at the Mpumalanga College of Nursing for the 2017 Academic year. The Mpumalanga provincial government offers fully funded opportunities to study towards the Diploma in Nursing: General, Psychiatry, Community and Midwifery at the Mpumalanga College of Nursing; successful candidates will also be paid a monthly stipend for the duration of their studies.

What are the requirements?
  • South African citizens who are Mpumalanga residents;
  • Have a completed Grade 12 or be currently a learner in Grade 12;
  • A matriculation certificate qualifying for admission at a tertiary institution;
  • Compulsory subjects: English level 4 (HG D/SG C) & Life Sciences /Biology; at least a level 4 (HG D/SG C) and above;
  • Mathematics level 3 or (HG D /SG C);
  • Any other science subject ( Physical Science/Agriculture/Geography; also passed with level 3 (HG E/SG C) or above;
  • Total APS score of all subjects should be 25 or above.
  • Please note the following:
    • Certificates not registrable with the South African Nursing Council (e.g ABET) ) will not be considered;
    • Applicants with a disability will be considered only in terms of the inherent requirements of the nursing duties.

Wilmed Park Hospital in Klerksdorp makes nursing bursaries available to members of the community every year. Bursaries are for people wishing to study to become enrolled nurses.

Since January 2003, Wilmed Park Private Hospital has offered bursaries to members of the community who are interested in training as Enrolled Nurses. The following process is followed in selecting candidates:

  • During the months June & July of every year, bursary application documents and paper select score grids are made available.
  • Candidates have to rate their own matric results (or latest exam written if in matric) according to the score grid.
  • Candidates with an M-score of 15 (old curriculum) or 22 (new curriculum) may then submit the application document and supportive documents.
  • Only original/certified copies of required documents will be accepted. School leaving certificates must be authenticated by SAQA.

Closing date is strictly 31 July of every year.
