Auditing, tax and accounting services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is inviting applications for its 2019 Accountancy bursaries from current students and Matric/Grade 12 learners wishing study towards a SAICA-accredited accountancy degree at a South African university. Bursaries are awarded to high-performing, talented individuals. The programme also seeks to support qualifying students with financial need.

What are the requirements?

Competencies / Skills:

  • Students at University must obtain consistent passes in all subjects.
  • Proficient in English with strong communication skills.
  • Must have participated in sport and/or other extramural activities at school and/or University.
  • Good interpersonal skills, drive, determination and leadership potential.

Responsibilities:

  • Must intend / be studying towards a qualification as a Chartered Accountant (CA) SA at a University accredited by SAICA (the South African Institution of Chartered Accountants).
  • Bursary students are required to maintain a consistently good academic record at University and to pass the required number of subjects in each Academic year to PwC’s satisfaction.
  • Bursary holders are also required to serve a three year (minimum) training contract with the firm on completion of their post-graduate studies.
  • This period may be extended depending on the value of the bursary awarded or the number of years for which the bursary is awarded.

The PwC bursary programme is available to students studying towards a Chartered Accountant (CA) degree at a South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) -accredited university. Bursaries are awarded to high-performing, talented individuals. The programme also seeks to support qualifying students with financial need. This bursary programme is open to current Matric learners planning to study towards an accountancy degree in 2019, and students currently studying towards a relevant qualification.

Candidates should be studying towards the Chartered Accountant (South Africa) CA (SA) qualification (Qualifications include a BCom and post graduate qualification in Accounting or equivalent at any SAICA accredited university),

  • Requirements for Grade 12: Must be writing for a matric exemption and university acceptance, with maths (pure maths not maths literacy) and English. Must be obtaining over 65% for all subjects
  • Requirements for university students: You must obtain consistent passes in all your subjects
  • Bursary holders are required to serve a three year (minimum) training contract with the firm on completion of their post-graduate studies
  • You may apply for a training contract at any stage from first year through to final year, however your training contract will only commence the year following successful completion of your Honours/CTA
  • Skills required include: obtaining consistent passes in all subjects from first year through to final year, proficiency in English, good communication and interpersonal skills, drive, determination, leadership potential, deadline driven, keen attention to detail, logical thinking
  • Participating in extramural activities at school and/or university will be advantageous

The bursary programme is available to university students who are studying towards becoming a chartered accountant at a SAICA accredited university (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants). Bursaries are awarded to high-performing, talented individuals. The programme also seeks to support qualifying students who have financial needs.

To apply for the bursary programme:

  • You must be studying, or intend to study, at a university to become a chartered accountant of South Africa (CA (SA)).
  • Your degree must be one that is accredited by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
  • You must have participated in extramural activities at school and university.

If you are in Grade 12:

  • You must be writing for a matric exemption and university acceptance.
  • Your subjects must include Mathematics and English (Maths Literacy does not qualify).
  • You must be getting over 60% for all your subjects.

If you are at university:

  • You must be passing all your subjects consistently.

Bursary students must maintain a consistently good academic record at university and pass the required number of subjects in each academic year to PwC’s satisfaction.

Responsibilities of PwC bursary holders

Bursary holders are required to serve a three-year training contract with PwC on completion of their post-graduate studies. The contract may be extended for a longer period, depending on the financial value of the bursary and number of years for which it was awarded.

We expect our bursary holders to progress steadily throughout the three years in order to qualify as a CA(SA). This includes writing the qualifying exams and achieving the necessary core hours as prescribed by SAICA.

  • Financial management
  • Secretarial systems
  • Taxation and estates

Are you planning to register for a Masters’ Degree in Taxation or LLM in Tax Law in 2015? PwC’s Cape Town office is inviting applications intending to study towards a masters’ degree in Tax in 2015 to apply for their bursary. Bursary recipients will be required to work for PwC for a specified period on completion of their studies. Only students with proficiency in English and excellent communication skills who are achieving 60% or more average and constant passes in all their subjects will be considered.

What are the requirements?

  • Currently in the 3rd year of study towards the B Acc/LLB degree and intend to register for the 4th and 5th year of study; OR
  • Currently in the final year of the B Com Law degree and intend to register for the post graduate two year LLB degree; OR
  • Currently in the 3rd year of study towards the B Bus Sc degree (financial accounting and law stream) and intend to register for the 4th and 5th year of study;
