Are you currently studying towards a SAICA-recognised accountancy qualification? Advisory, tax, and assurance services firm, SNG Grant Thornton offers merit-based bursaries to students studying to become chartered accountants.

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria: 

  • South African citizen 
  • Achieved a Grade 12 certificate with a university endorsement with an Admission Point Score (APS) of 34 (Life Orientation excluded when calculating APS) and a minimum of  level 6  in Mathematics level 5 in English or

Are you in Matric/Grade 12 in 2020 or have you already completed Grade 12 and intend to registered towards a university qualification leading to registration as a Chartered Accountant in 2021? The Thuthuka Bursary Fund is inviting applications for their 2021 bursaries from young South Africans wishing to enrol for a South African Institute for Chartered Accountancy (SAICA)-accredited accounting qualification at a South African University (see list below).

What are the requirements?

  • Be a young South African citizen in Grade 12 in 2020 or must have already completed Grade 12;

What are the requirements?

Competencies / Skills:

  • Students at University must obtain consistent passes in all subjects.
  • Proficient in English with strong communication skills.
  • Must have participated in sport and/or other extramural activities at school and/or University.
  • Good interpersonal skills, drive, determination and leadership potential.

Responsibilities:

  • Must intend / be studying towards a qualification as a Chartered Accountant (CA) SA at a University accredited by SAICA (the South African Institution of Chartered Accountants).
  • Bursary students are required to maintain a consistently good academic record at University and to pass the required number of subjects in each Academic year to PwC’s satisfaction.
  • Bursary holders are also required to serve a three year (minimum) training contract with the firm on completion of their post-graduate studies.
  • This period may be extended depending on the value of the bursary awarded or the number of years for which the bursary is awarded.

The world’s 8th largest audit, accounting and consulting firm, Mazars, which operates in more than 70 countries, is inviting applications from current accounting students or those who are intending to pursue a SAICA-accredited accounting qualification at a SAICA-accredited university/institution in 2018 (current matric learners included). The bursary will only consider studies towards a qualification that leads to a Chartered Accountancy (CA (SA)) career.

What are the requirements?

First and foremost you have to show a commitment to your studies and a career with Mazars. The meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) pass with flying colours and be able to be admitted to a SAICA-accredited degree.
  • If you are already at university studying towards a SAICA-accredited qualification.

Please note the above are only minimum requirements.

What am I expected to do if I get the Mazars Bursary?

You are expected to do the following:

  • You must be able to take-up and complete a 3-year SAICA training contract (Articles) with Mazars Moores Rowland on you completion your studies.
  • Make yourself available for vacation work at Mazars at least once every year during your studies
  • You must submit your academic results at the end of each semester.
  • You must, when required, avail yourself to attend Mazars social functions.

The bursary programme is available to university students who are studying towards becoming a chartered accountant at a SAICA accredited university (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants). To apply for the bursary programme:

  • You must be studying, or intend to study, at a university to become a chartered accountant of South Africa (CA (SA)).

If you are in Grade 12:

  • You must be writing for a matric exemption and university acceptance.

Bursary students must maintain a consistently good academic record at university and pass the required number of subjects in each academic year to PwC’s satisfaction.

Responsibilities of PwC bursary holders

Bursary holders are required to serve a three-year training contract with PwC on completion of their post-graduate studies. The contract may be extended for a longer period, depending on the financial value of the bursary and number of years for which it was awarded.

We expect our bursary holders to progress steadily throughout the three years in order to qualify as a CA(SA). This includes writing the qualifying exams and achieving the necessary core hours as prescribed by SAICA.

During your learnership, you will gain experience in the following fields:

  • Business information systems
  • Financial management
  • Secretarial systems
  • Taxation and estates
