The South African Department of Social Development is inviting all prospective bursary holders with a calling to be Social Workers to apply for its Social Work Scholarship programme for 2015. What does the Social Work Scholarship cover?

In the department’s scholarship guide they state: “As part of the recruitment and retention strategy and initiative to address critical and scarce skills in the sector, the National Department of Social Development is hereby making a scholarship available in the field of Social Work.

Applications are open to current Social Work students as well as prospective students who would like to enrol for a Social Work Degree.  Students who are currently holders of a National Department of Social Development Scholarship do not have to apply.

The Scholarship will cover Registration, Tuition, Prescribed books, stipend for practical’s and official accommodation provided by the University (ONLY ACCOMMODATION, WHICH HAS BEEN CONTRACTED BY THE RELEVANT UNIVERSITY MIGHT BE CONSIDERED).”

And, what are the requirements for the social work scholarship?

The requirements for the Department of Social Development Social Work scholarship are as follows:

    Be a South African Citizen
    Comply with the entry requirements set by the University
    Fully and correctly complete the Scholarship Application form
    Be prepared to enter into an agreement with the Department (More details will be contained in the agreement)
    Must complete the qualification within the minimum period as prescribed by the University

What should I attach to the application form?

The department insists that you attach the following:

    Certified copy of Grade 12 results
    Certified copy of Identity Document of applicant
    Certified copy of ID and Proof of income of Parent/ Guardian

To develop a cadre of leaders, the WK Kellogg Foundation is awarding full scholarships to suitably qualified and financially needy applicants from Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, South Africa and Zimbabwe that will provide them with the education, skills and tools that will empower them to bring new capacity to their communities through their academic credentials, leadership skills and determination to make a difference within their own and / or other disadvantaged rural communities in their country of origin.

W K KELLOGG (USA) FOUNDATION SOUTHERN AFRICAN SHOLARSHIP

The Foundation has appointed Career Wise to administer scholarships for fellows (Scholarship recipients) to attend internationally accredited academic institutions within South Africa, including financial assistance in the form of tuition fees, accommodation and meals, stipends and allowances to cover the cost of books, transport, living expenses, study visas and mandatory membership of a medical aid.

Career Wise will allocate mentors to provide ongoing personal and academic support and guidance to each fellow (Scholarship recipient) and will be responsible for the administration of all payments both to the institutions as well as personal allowances. Fellows (Scholarship recipients) will be required to attend leadership and life skills courses in South Africa and also undertake community service related to their field of study within their communities in their country of origin during their vacations.
