If you are a recent graduate, a South African citizen under 30, have initiative and curiosity, excellent English Language writing skills and a strong commitment to a career in journalism with Times Media we’d like to meet you,

If you are successful in your application you will have an opportunity to get practical journalism skills and to receive training in Courts and Law and Local and Provincial Government reporting.

This internship runs from 3 February – 31 December 2014. A monthly stipend will be paid to successful candidates.

To apply:

1) Download the application form (CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD) and complete it.

2) Write an essay of not more than 600 words on the topic:

Who cares? Politics, Elections and SA’s young generation.

The essay must be typed using a computer and double spacing and must demonstrate evidence of research. It should contain facts and quotes. It must be written in a clear and coherent journalistic – not academic – style and be entirely your own original work.

You must e-mail the application form and the essay only to: [email protected]

before 16h00 on 25 October 2013.

Please put “TM Journalism Internship” in the subject line of your e-mail and attach the form and the essay.

Queries with regard to the application process can be directed to Phumzile Mbatha on 011-280-5861.

Do not send any other documents with your application and essay.

If you do not receive a response from us by 30 November 2013 please consider your application unsuccessful.

If your essay gets you through to the first phase of the selection process you will be invited to an interview and will be asked to complete a written assessment. If you make it through to the next phase you will be interviewed by a panel of senior Times Media journalists and editors.

We look forward to receiving your application and essay.

If you are accepted onto the programme your training will consist of formal and informal training sessions, hands-on practical sessions and coaching as well as experiential training periods with various news operations in the company.

While the initial training will take place in Johannesburg you may be posted to other centres during your internship.

You will be required to build a portfolio of the work you do.

We cannot guarantee a job after your training contract but if you have demonstrated commitment and journalistic skill you will be prioritised for junior journalist positions that may become available in the company.

Preference will be given to candidates who will add to the diversity of the company.

We invite you to like our Journalism Training Programme SA page on Facebook and post any queries you may have on the page.
