The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) is inviting applications for its 2016/2017 internships from unemployed South African graduates with a bachelors degree in various fields of study. The internships are for a period of twelve months and interns will be paid an annual stipend of R60 000 (which equates to R5 000 per month). However, the Research Intern (since it requires a Masters degree) will pay R72 000 per annum (which equates to R6 000). Candidates will be required to sign 12-months contract with with SAQA . This learnership programme is funded by the Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP SETA).

Management Services – the services division of the CSIR – has a vacancy for an Internship. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating small projects, conducting feasibility studies by gathering information on project requirements and compiling schematic layout drawings of the scope of the work before submitting project costings for finalisation. The incumbent will also be responsible for compiling payment certificates for contractors before invoices are submitted to the project manager for approval and payment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist with project management, contract management, site supervision, quality control and administration.
  • Responsible for progress reporting on the project.Conduct site visits to check and confirm physical project status (where applicable) and ensure that the service provider’s invoice payments are in line with the project status.
  • Coordinate project costs and expenditure and consolidate project payment records.
  • Assess and control compliance with project management processes to ensure that all prerequisites recorded in the project management framework are met.

The CSIR Shared Services requires an Intern: Graphic Design to assist with exciting and challenging tasks within the graphic design function in the CSIR Strategic Communications and Stakeholder Relations unit. The candidate will be required to handle design, layout and DTP for various print and electronic corporate materials, as well as liaise with service providers. The candidate will need to be a hardworking self-starter who is both enthusiastic and organised with excellent attention to detail.

This individual will be required to develop fresh and exciting new concepts and execute exceptional designs in various formats within tight deadlines.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and production of a variety of corporate material such as flyers, posters, signage, brochures, e-mailers, certificates and invitations, etc. within specified brand guidelines.
  • Perform administrative duties (i.e. source quotes, schedule meetings, etc.).
  • Assist in the production and maintenance of standard, electronic design templates in line with CSIR branding specifications, to be used by all CSIR staff.

Qualifications, experience and skills:

  • Relevant Design diploma or degree.
  • Knowledge of Adobe: Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat and Distiller, Micromedia Freehand, and Microsoft Office.
  • An understanding of print set-up for production.
  • Design and layout skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • A hardworking self-starter.
  • Ability to deliver against deadlines.
  • Enthusiastic and organised.
  • Good communicator and team player.

The National Metrology Institute of South Africa is inviting graduates with a B Degree in Safety Management and /or Environmental Science or a related field to apply for an internship vacancy that exists in its SHEQ Department. The intern will be responsible for assisting the SHEQ Department in ensuring the maintenance of safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) systems in line with the existing NMISA Total Quality Management System.

Your responsibilities and tasks will include:

  • Assist with management of operational controls associated with hazard, aspect, impact and risk identified
  • Assist with conducting hazard/aspects identification and risk/impact assessment
  • Assist with SHEQ activities, internal audits and action requests
  • Ensure that filing is up to date (electronic and hard copy filing)
  • Assist with SHEQ management system documentation, document control and record keeping
  • Application of EHS legislation and other requirements
  • General SHEQ tasks as and when required

The main requirements for this position are:

  • A Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science / Safety Management or related field
  • Basic knowledge of relevant EHS legislation
  • Experience in a technical field will be an added advantage
  • Proficient in MS Office software packages
  • Basic Knowledge of Management System standards, particularly ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 and ISO/IEC 17025.
  • Good administrative skills

The position requires a pro-active person with a positive attitude, attention to details, who has willingness towards continuous learning. An individual who follows/executes tasks according to prescribed procedures/policies. Good communication, professionalism and good interpersonal skills are needed. Telephone etiquette and fluency in English is required as the candidate will be expected to communicate with individuals at all levels.
