Locomotive manufacturing joint-venture Gibela Rail Transport Consortium is inviting applications for its 2017 Bursaries from current Grade 12 learners, people who completed Matric and those already studying at either TV colleges, universities of technology or traditional universities. The bursaries are awarded for various fields of study. This bursary programme will cover tuition fees and a books allowance.

Which fields are funded?

Various fields are funded, dependent of on institution types.

For students at universities of technology and traditional universities, and Grade 12 learners planning to study there next year, the following fields are funded:

  • Electrical, electronic, mechanical, metallurgical OR industrial engineering
  • Computer Science OR Information Technology
  • Accounting
  • Supply chain

For students at TVET colleges and those planning to study there next year, the following trades are funded?

  • Boiler-makers • Electricians • Mechanics • Fitters and turners • Millwrights • Welders • Pattern-makers • Vehicle-builders • Plumbers • Control and Instrumentation Technicians.

What are the requirements?

For applications to be considered, applicants have to meet the following minimum criteria

  • Be a South African citizen with a bar-coded ID book or ID card;
  • In need of financial assistance;
  • Be currently in Grade 12, or have a completed grade 12, and be intending to study at a South African TVET college OR a university OR university of technology;
  • Demonstrate potential for academic successes;
  • Current students are also invited to apply; and
  • Meet the following requirements for your chosen institution of study: (Please note: the requirements are not the same for TVET and University students):
Only for TVET Only for University OR University of Technology
  • Matriculation with exemption in Mathematics, Science OR Accounting at Level 6, and English at Level 5
  • Written proof of acceptance for admission to a South African university or university of technology
  • Matriculation with Mathematics, Science, and English at Level 4
  • Written proof of acceptance for admission to a South African TVET college

These bursaries are open to Grade 12 learners, and current first and second year students at universities as well as current N3 and N4 students at TVET colleges.

  • a certified copy of their South African identity document

The National Treasury invites applications for its 2015 Bursary Programme from young South Africans currently in matric OR those who completed matric/ Grade 12 OR those currently at university. The bursaries will be available to students who are excelling academically but who are financially needy. The bursaries will be issued in a number of study fields, namely: Accounting, BCom Law, Development Finance, Econometrics, Economics, Financial Engineering, Financial Management, Internal Audit, LLB, Public Policy, Risk Management, Social Policy, and Taxation.

What are the requirements?

  • Be a South African citizen;
  • Be financially needy;
  • Successfully meet the entry requirement for your chosen degree (provide proof of provisional acceptance for studies in 2015 or proof of registration at a university);
  • You have to be studying to towards, or planning to study in 2015, a university degree in any of the following disciplines:
    • Accounting, BCom Law, Development Finance, Econometrics, Economics, Financial Engineering, Financial Management, Internal Audit, LLB, Public Policy, Risk Management, Social Policy, and Taxation;
  • You must be an above average academic performer (if you are currently in Matric/Grade 12 you must achieve a university exemption (pass with degree admission) and attain 65% or more average pass mark; if you are already at university you must have obtained 65% or higher average pass mark for the previous year of study)

How to apply?

To apply, complete this application form (click here to download – if not downloading, right-click and click “Save As”) and return it, together with the following documents, to the National Treasury (by email or post on the details below):

  • Cover letter stating your field of interest and motivation;
  • Certified copy of the applicant’s South African ID;
  • Full official academic record or the latest statement of Grade 12 results;
  • Proof of Registration or Provisional acceptance at University;
  • Certified copies of parent/s or guardian’s South African IDs;
  • Proof of Parent’s/Guardian income (salary advice) or affidavit (in case of unemployment).
