The CSIR/Department of Science and Technology National Centre for Nano-structured Materials is a platform for the implementation of the South African National Nanotechnology Strategy. It undertakes innovative research on nano-structured materials and has an extensive research network with other local and international research organisations. It has a strong focus on human capital development; makes a significant contribution to the creation and dissemination of new scientific knowledge; and collaborates closely with industry to help ensure successful outcomes and impact of the group’s research and development (R&D) activities. This position is based in Pretoria.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist researchers and engineers in the establishment and construction of a medium-sized up-scale facility, as well as its operation.
- Assist in the optimisation and further development of the processes and systems for new or improved production methods of nano-structures.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- A national diploma or BTech in chemical engineering.
- Communicationand presentation skills.
- Problem-solving, solution-seeking orientation.
- A goal-oriented approach.
- Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
- Computer literacy.
The following skills and experience will be considered as desirable:
- CAD experience,
- Industrial experience in chemical plant operation.
- Wet chemical nano-powder production methods and system.
- Safety experience.
- Understanding of the industry needs and problems.
- Ability to communicate with engineers in industry.
- Ability to formulate research questions.
- Project management experience.
