The South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement / SAASTA (which is an agency of the Department of Science and Technology) is inviting applications from young unemployed South Africans with a national diploma, BTech, or degree in communication, journalism or science-related field to apply for their 2016 Youth Science Journalism Internship Programme which will be based across five South African provinces (Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West.
What are the requirements?
- Must have either of the following: National Diploma, BTech degree, Bachelor’s degree or Honours degree in any of the following fields: Journalism, Communication, Science or related field;
- Be computer literate;
- Have good creative writing, interpersonal and radio skills;
- While not a basic requirement; a drivers’ license will serve as an advantage.

Note: Interns will paid as follows, depending on highest qualification attained: R4 000 (National Diploma), R4 500 (BTech / Bachelor’s degree), R5 000 (Honours degree).
Successful candidates will be placed as follows: Eastern Cape (Amathole, OR Tambo, Chris Hani, Alfred Nzo and Joe Gqabi). KwaZulu-Natal (Ilembe, uMzinyathi, uMkhanyakhude, uThukela, Uthungulu and uMgungundlovu), Limpopo (Capricorn and Vhembe). Mpumalanga (Sekhukhune and Ehlanzeni). North West (Bojanala, Ngaka Modiri Molema and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati).
