Red Cross 2021 Youth Programme Internship

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is inviting applications from unemployed young South Africans for its Youth Programme Internship, applications must be graduates in development studies/science or related field. Youth Programme Intern will be based in Tshwane, South Africa and support Youth programme activities within National Society Development (NSD) in the Delegation office.Job Purpose

The intern duties/work will focus on supporting the development of a youth program for the Southern Africa delegation to implement the youth engagement strategy and develop projects that target youth as beneficiaries. The intern will be working closely and Reporting to the National Society Development Delegate, the Youth Programme Intern will work and support the development of a youth program with activities implemented within delegation`s National Societies. The intern will provide comprehensive administrative and technical support on the youth programming within the delegation and ensure effective linkages, communication, and collaboration with the relevant colleagues internally within the Movement as well as with external partners including international organisations and donors.Job Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative Support:

  • Accountable for providing professional administrative expertise and support.
  • With guidance and support of the NSD delegate, Plan and organize meetings, events internally & externally.
  • Collect, compile, track, and anticipate the necessary documentation and files containing briefings and information for meetings, events and mission travel and ensure the required clearances.
  • Attend meetings and prepares meeting minutes, notes, meeting reports (syntheses, summaries, agreements, and action points for follow-up), upon request identify meeting content.
  • Assist in keeping the operational youth program file on requests and upcoming commitments and deadlines.
  • supporting for making PowerPoint presentations, filing, documentation, scanning etc.
  • Perform other administration duties as assigned by the NSD delegate and/ Head of Cluster.

Program

  • Dissemination  and operationalisation of the 2017 IFRC Youth Policy and IFRC Youth Engagement Strategy (YES)
  • Preparation for the 10th  IFRC  PAC by facilitating NS review of their performance in relation to the 2017 Abidjan Youth Declaration
  • Supporting NS to access financial support for  Youth innovation from the Global Youth Summit and IFRC Limitless initiative
  • Assist in creating/managing a platform for enhanced Youth Engagement virtually as a Sub regional network across NSs and other Sub regions/Clusters
  • Working closely with the NSD Delegate, seek to expand financial support to NSs and develop concept notes, proposals, and funding requests
  • Support conducting research and or dialogue to understand youth priorities within Southern Africa that will help determined on the approach and intervention through creative and innovative ideas in (e.g. youth sexual and reproductive health (SRHR), youth life-skills development, promotion of youth talent, youth networks management, youth peace and security, youth and gender based violence, youth participation in entrepreneurship, and other youth development related topics).
  • Support compiling best practices, lessons learnt, experiences and stories on key thematic youth development areas.
  • Proof-reading and editing of documents; Project Management Support
  • Facilitate data and information collection in close collaboration with the youth program task force and analyst.
  • Provide support in managing Youth Peer Education Network related activities.
  • Provide support to the IFRC Youth Programme logistics and procurement in organizing seminars, workshops, conferences, where applicable.
  • Perform any other duties that the supervisor may assign.

Communication

With Support from the NSD delegate and the Youth program taskforce develop and maintain an up-to-date mailing lists, contact lists for internal and external stakeholders for health-related matters.Education

  • Relevant university degree in development studies, other related fields (Required)

Experience

  • At least a year in youth work or development projects targeting youth (even if it was a volunteer role (Preferred)
  • Experience working with international non- governmental organization, or even an institution (Preferred)
  • Experience in writing report, proposals/concept notes, case studies and M&E (Required)
  • Valuing diversity and team player & Basic secretarial skills (Preferred)

Knowledge, skills and languages

  • Self-supporting in computers (Required)
  • Very good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills (Required)
  • Motivated, self-started personality, sense of responsibility and organization skills (Required)
